Back with a vengeance is Señor Taco, which has reopened right in the heart of Clarke Quay and is shaking things up (literally). 

Aside from their irresistible tacos, this taqueria comes to life every night with their own Latin band, dance workshops and free-flow cocktails on specific days.

Ditch the fork and knives as it’s going to be a messy (but tasty) experience. 

You definitely won’t have any problems finding this eatery as their alfresco area is decorated with the signature red-and-white style of taquerias, featuring a huge “Señor Taco” sign — super retro and quirky. 

Find yourself unconsciously swaying to the Latin music blasting out loud, creating a lively ambience that immediately made me start craving tacos. 

However, if you do choose to sit outside, be prepared to dine at the high tables with bar stools.

At least, it makes a great photo spot for the ‘gram.

Who knows, you might even get to watch your tacos being personally prepared by the chef. 

Otherwise, head indoors towards the booth seating tucked away in a corner — adorned with green tapestry and red fringe pendant lights — for a cosy ambience. 

With over two hundred labels and small batch hand-crafted agave cocktails, it’s only right to start off your night at the bar. 

I mean, look at their stunning array of mezcal!

We went for the frozen cocktail, Passion Fruit Caipirinha (S$21) which was a tad strong for me but I can foresee it being a favourite for people who enjoy drinking. 

I personally, however, preferred the Jarrito (S$21) that had the right balance of Tequila and grapefruit soda, lined with salt, tajin and chamoy on the rim. 

Asides that, there’s also free-flow alcohol for ladies from 5.30pm—8.30pm every Wednesday for selected drinks.

You know where to go if you’re looking for a fun girls night out. 

For starters, we were recommended the Aguachile Ceviche (S$24) that comprises tortilla chips and a generous portion of black prawns cold-cooked in a spicy chilli-lime juice marinade with sliced cucumbers and red onions.

With how meat-forward the mains were going to be, this was a refreshingly light and clean combo.

You can’t say that you went to a Mexican restaurant without ordering Guacamole & Chips (SS14). 

Pair it with the guacamole dip that had a nutty, buttery taste and slight heat from the serrano peppers.

Once you start snacking on these tortilla chips, it’s seriously hard to stop.

As for the mains, I was most excited for the tacos, especially the Crunchy Fish (S$17 for 2pcs) with stir-fried cod fish. 

However, we felt that the breading of the fish could’ve been slightly more seasoned. 

Nevertheless, the combination of the sour cream and Cholula (hot sauce), alongside fresh mixed cabbage, lettuce and the extra crispy deep-fried tortilla made up for it. 

What really took me by surprise was the Birria (S$28) that were highly raved about at the eatery. 

Stuffed with 48-hours slow cooked lamb, the meat was surprisingly tender and oh-so-flavorful, especially with the ooey gooey mozzarella cheese — no gamey taste whatsoever. 

If that isn’t enough, it even came with a side of savoury dipping sauce that was evenly spiced and bursting with flavours. 

Now, I see why it has become the top seller at Señor Taco. 

Another one of their popular dishes was the Torta De Milanesa (S$24) with a thick slab of breaded beef steak and grilled cheese sandwiched in between lightly toasted Mexican torta bread. 

With the addition of juicy tomatoes and avocados, it brought out the smoky flavour of the beef even more.  

Desserts anyone? 

We ended off the extremely filling meal with some homemade Churros (S$14) coated in cinnamon sugar and Mexican chocolate fudge sauce. 

The dough was freshly fried and fluffy without being too oily, making it so satisfying to bite into the crispy ridges. 

However, I felt that the highlight of this meal was definitely the Chamoyada (S$15). Think of it as a mango sorbet with chunks of fresh mango, topped with tajin chilli powder and Chamoy (Mexican savoury sauce) drizzle. 

Don’t let the chilli intimidate you as it was simultaneously sweet, salty, tangy with a slight tinge of spice.  Surprisingly, I enjoyed this more than the churros because it was refreshing and completely melted in my  mouth. 

Get the homemade Mezcal Gummies (S$5 per pc, S$9 for two) coated with chilli salt if you’re stuffed but still want something sweet. 

What’s a Mexican diner without any music, am I right? 

The taqueria truly came to life at night with their live band featuring Reggaeton, Mariachi, Latin Pop music and many more. 

To capture the true spirit of Mexican festivities, they also have dance workshops like Bachata and Salsa, led by Singapore’s top dance instructors — the place was practically buzzing with entertainment.

Best of all, Señor Taco opens way past midnight everyday so you get to indulge in authentic Mexican food with good vibes all night long leaving you with a full belly and heart.
