Japan’s most popular warabimochi brand Torori Tenshi no Warabi Mochi is now in Singapore with unique drinks, ice cream parfaits & more

It looks like the warabimochi craze is far from over, but are we complaining? Not at all.

If you’re still on the pursuit of all things soft, chewy, and bouncy, here’s an opening you’ll definitely wanna check out.

Hailing from Osaka is Torori Tenshi no Warabi Mochi, a popular warabimochi specialty brand with over 140 stores in Japan. They’ve opened their first Singapore outlet at VivoCity, featuring a live station where you can watch warabimochi being made.

Obviously you’ve got to try the Original Warabi Mochi, available a la carte (S$7.80) or a set (S$10.80) with a pot of Ito En’s Ryokucha, a fragrant, mild-tasting tea.

Think jiggly warabimochi in a generous coating of earthy roasted kinako (soybean) powder, drizzled with kuromitsu syrup — a sweet, yet not too sweet, wonderfully well-balanced dessert.

However, I would’ve preferred for the warabimochi to be a lot softer; the chunks were also way too big, making it a bit of a messy affair.

Alternatively, go for the unique Singapore-exclusive Matcha Warabi Mochi w/ Ice Cream, priced at S$9.80 for a la carte and S$12.80 for a set.

It comprises bouncy matcha-infused chunks of warabimochi served with ice cream on a bed of shaved ice. You are encouraged to enjoy it with the accompanying red bean paste and kinako for the best experience — a piece of advice I wholeheartedly agree with.

I’d recommend you to order this over the original warabimochi if you can!

If you’re a fan of warabimochi drinks, you’ve got a slurp-worthy selection to choose from.

As someone who lives and breathes matcha, I was sorely disappointed by the Matcha Latte (S$7.80). Despite being highly recommended, it tasted mostly of milk, with barely any discernible notes of matcha.

Instead, you’re better off going for the crowd favourite Strawberry Yogurt (S$9.80), a thick, tart, and creamy concoction prepared using fresh strawberries. The brand is also running a special promotion on all three strawberry drinks — Strawberry Yogurt, Strawberry Soda, and Strawberry Milk — all priced at S$7.90 each for a limited time only.

If you’re the sort to go gaga over more decadent flavours like Chocolate (S$7.80), Royal Milk Tea (S$7.80), and Kuromitsu Cafe Latte (S$7.80), you’re also in for a treat.

Last but not least, you can also choose from a selection of IG-worthy ice cream parfaits, each showcasing a prized Japanese fruit.

Sweet and juicy muscat grapes take center stage in the Muscat Grape Parfait (S$10.80), paired with crunchy cornflakes, whipped cream, warabimochi chunks, and your choice of matcha or vanilla ice cream (we opted for the latter). For a finishing touch, it is crowned with an un-bear-ably adorable wafer.

All things considered, I’d recommend swinging by if you’re in the area, and are specifically craving warabimochi desserts. As long as you take my advice and skip the matcha latte.

You can look forward to more Torori Tenshi no Warabi Mochi outlets opening across the island, so stay tuned!
