Brazilian BBQ is a serious meat lover’s dream come true.
The food — smoky and impeccably juicy flame-kissed meat — is obviously a major part of the dining experience, but so is the presentation, which stands out from the Korean, Japanese, and American BBQ styles we’re so used to.
Casa Brazilia in Outram Park is one of the few restaurants in Singapore that serve Brazilian BBQ in the popular all-you-can-eat service style, also known as rodízio.
Chefs or servers move around the restaurant with knives and long metal skewers of barbecued meat, known as churrasco, which are then are served and carved tableside.
There is only one menu option available for dinner, which is priced at S$79++ per person for 1.5 hours of unlimited meats and sides. It’s essentially a meat marathon of sorts — one you must be mentally prepared for.
Before the meats make their grand entrance, you’ll be treated to an array of seasonal sides like Coxinha De Frango (chicken croquettes), Banana Empanadas (deep-fried fritters with a sweet and soft banana filling), and our favourite of the lot, Pão de Queijo (mochi-like cheese balls).
We also enjoyed A Soup of Brazil, a tangy tomato soup, which we slurped up with Garlic Bread.
Diners are also served salad, several carb options (Garlic Rice and Waffle Fries, in our case), and a trio of sauces: Chimichurri, Mint Jelly, and a Vinaigrette Sauce reminscent of salsa.
You can also look out for sides like Grilled Lettuce and Goat Cheese Crostini, which we unfortunately did not get to try.
Afterwards, chefs will arrive bearing different cuts of skewered meat, fresh off the grill, and slice it right onto your plate. Some cuts will also require the use of mini golden tongs, which make for a bit of an interactive experience.
You’re encouraged to enjoy each meaty offering as soon as it is served, so don’t let your plate pile up!
Although you’ll get to savour a fairly extensive selection of beef, chicken, duck, lamb, and fish, you are bound to play favourites and request second servings of that one cut of meat.
In our case, it was the File De Lmombo Com Alho (Sirloin with Garlic), a tender, juicy and aromatic chunk of sirloin with a super unctuous layer of fat.
We also enjoyed the Beef Rump Cap and Picanhas, the signature Brazilian cut of beef best known for its exceptional flavour and texture.
One thing I noticed is that every cut of beef that whizzed by was cooked beautifully, yielding perfectly pink slices dripping with juices.
Othe cuts we got to try include the Coxa De Frango Com Osso (Chicken Thigh without Bone), Chicken Heart, Lamb Leg Bone In, and most notably, the unique Butter Fish.
Butterfish is lusciously fatty and buttery (hence the name), with a rich mouthfeel akin to that of cod. I would’ve gladly asked for seconds if I could stomach more food!
Most diners tend to end the meal with Barbecued Pineapple, which we (sadly) also didn’t get to try, but you can also take your pick from desserts off the a la carte menu. Do note that alcohol is served here, but Casa Brazilia runs a Muslim-friendly kitchen, so dine at your own discretion.
All things considered, I did find it challenging to eat at my own pace, given that the chefs will swing by each table with a different skewer every five to seven minutes. However, this theatrical all-you-can-eat concept is still worth checking out at least once, especially if you’re a sucker for good-quality meats.
It is every carnivore’s dream come true, after all!
