Ever heard of Dr. Kart? It’s not a racing game stimulator but Singapore’s latest and coolest healthcare innovation! Stationed at Tampines, this is a vending machine unlike any other. It’s a one-stop, 24/7 teleconsultation station where you can get instant medical attention.
No, this is not a scam.
Dr. Kart has been officially recognised by the Health Science Authority and the Ministry of Health while being manned by actual doctors and pharmacists. They offer treatment for most common ailments such as migraine, fever, coughs, and more. They’re planning to expand to have enough resources to treat 32 illnesses in the future.
This service is available throughout the entire day so you do not need to worry about seeing a doctor even in the middle of the night or spend time queuing at a clinic.
So how does this work? Register your NRIC or Singpass for verification, and you will be connected to a healthcare staff member which will then link you to a doctor. You will be able to chat with the doctor through a handset connected to the kiosk. After getting your diagnosis, the medication and medical certificate will be dispensed by a robotic arm, packaged in a Dr. Kart box.
Do note that at the current time, they are still working on getting doctors to be available at all times. However, a pharmacist will be on duty to handle your necessary medication.
An advantage to this is that you get your medication immediately compared to other teleconsultations where you need to wait for your medication. RxMedz, the company behind this, does not plan to replace actual clinics but rather wants to make healthcare more affordable and convenient to the public.
Plus, they are currently working with Shell to roll out more locations.
For now, this would be a game-changer for anyone who needs hassle-free medical care in the wee hour of the night. While I don’t see myself using this often, the concept is interesting and could be a quick remedy for those in a pinch. Though, older folks may take a bit of time to warm up to this.
