As someone who cannot get enough of Korean and Japanese cuisine, you can usually find me fawning over a platter of sushi, or grilling up a storm with friends at a bustling K-BBQ spot in Tanjong Pagar.
However, one thing I’ve noticed is the lack of halal or Muslim-friendly establishments offering similar fare in the area.

That is, until a wild Yaksok appeared.

Nestled along Tanjong Pagar Road, this Muslim-owned restaurant with sleek and polished interiors, fits right in. They specialise in Korean and Japanese fusion fare, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds in one place.

Starters are kept fairly simple; think deceptively spicy Korean Wings (S$8), Salmon or Beef Sushibake (S$12), and Tater Tots topped with Bulgogi (S$12) or Mentaiko (S$12).

As for mains, they’ve got the usual donburi with Salmon (S$18), Chicken Katsu (S$18), and Unagi (S$20), served with assorted vegetables and a shoyu egg.

Standouts include the comforting Salmon Ochazuke (S$17), salmon and rice in an aromatic green tea broth, as well as the Japanese Curry Katsu Mac and Cheese (S$18), which sounds like a hug on a plate.

If you’re all about that pasta life, look no further than options like the Miso Butter Mushroom Spaghetti (U.P. S$22), Mentaiko Prawn Pasta (S$25), and Spicy GoChUnagi Pasta (U.P. S$25) — a testament to how both Japanese and Korean flavours work so well in pasta dishes.

Seeking something more value-for-money? The Weekday Lunch Set, which entitles you to a Soup of the Day (U.P. S$6), a soft drink, and your choice of main for just S$25.90++, is your best bet.

You can’t leave without trying at least one of their signature craft Mocktails (S$12++) such as the Halia Fizz, Lavender Iced Tea, Nenas Colada, and Matcha Mallow, a smooth and frothy concoction served with a torched marshmallow, finished off with a dusting of matcha powder.
