From the Banksy exhibition at Orchard and the immersive ‘Monet Inside’ at Parkview Square to the Studio Ghibli showcase at ArtScience Museum — and now, a cat-themed exhibition in Tanjong Pagar — it’s clear that Singaporeans are fully embracing their artsy side.
Cats in a Floating World is located at I.F Gallery at Tras Street and is free-entry. Adorned with pristine white walls and minimalist furniture, the gallery offers a serene oasis — one where you’re delightfully surrounded by all things feline (in artistic form, of course!).
Right at the entrance, you’ll be greeted by a giant cat statue dressed in a futuristic, space-themed outfit. While it might seem a bit intimidating at first, don’t worry, it’s all smiles (or purrs) for anyone looking to snap a photo!
This striking installation is part of Kanji Yanobe’s Ship’s Cat series, celebrating the adventurous spirit of cats as they explore and travel.
If this space-traveling feline has captured your heart, you can take it home as a miniature gachapon figure for just S$5 or flaunt its illustrated charm on a tote bag for S$35.
The rest of the exhibition is brought to life with illustrated artworks by various Japanese artists, such as Asuka Irie, Momoko Mayuyama, and Momoe Fukumoto. These pieces beautifully reflect Japanese culture through traditional art styles, scenic depictions of Japan, and an unmistakable feline flair woven throughout.
Whether you’re strolling through the area or searching for a fun (and free) date idea, this exhibition is a must-see. With its run ending soon on 29 December 2024, now’s your chance to catch it before it’s gone for good.
Which purr-fectly adorable highlight will steal your heart first?
