10 multiplayer mobile games for couples/friends because we’re stuck at home

by

It just seems like we’re falling in and out of limbo. Social gatherings and dining out have been limited to two pax again and even worse, some of us may be isolated in quarantine.

For the people who are stuck at home, there’s another unfavourable situation ahead. Some of our partners/friends are gamers and are contented with simply thrashin’ it out on their computers, but that also means that the non-gamer counterparts are struggling to pass time alone.

If you’d like to join them in their games but playing a round of Dota 2 or World of Warcraft is just too intimidating, here are 10 easy-to-master multiplayer mobile games to try playing together, so you don’t have to suffer alone.

Identity V

It’s exhilarating to catch a horror movie together every once in a while, but most of them have similar plots and there are only so many times you can forgive a person for wanting to move into a haunted house. So this time, be part of the movie instead.

Set in a haunted manor, Identity V is a multiplayer mobile game that consists of five key players. Each round consists of four survivors and one hunter that’ll be thrown into a random map, and the survivors have to cipher decoding machines to unlock the final door to escape — without getting hunted.

Choose from a variety of players such as doctors, gardeners, or even grave diggers, all equipped with different skills to help team members escape the place. The hunters run faster than the survivors, but there’s an advantage that’ll greatly help you — in-game, the survivors’ hearts will start to beat faster when the hunter gets near — hide or use your skills wisely!

For the people who want to terrorize the earth, there’s a special game mode from 4pm–6pm and 9pm–11pm that’ll allow two hunters on the map. That way, you’ll be able to scare the living sh*t out of other players while having fun together. Yikes

Zooba

It’s no secret that Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games such as Mobile Legends dominate the mobile gaming scene, but such games can be filled with toxic players that do not do your confidence any good — especially if you’re a beginner.

If you’d still like to give MOBAs a go, Zooba will be a good alternative. The multiplayer mobile game is a battle royale where animals are pit to fight against each other, all with the help of arrows, guns, and grenades.

Play in teams of two and watch bae’s back, or in a team of five if you’d prefer more action. Each animal is equipped with special skills that’ll help you turn the tides of the game at crucial moments.

As the game progresses, you’ll get to unlock more adorable characters and upgrade your weapons as well.

Speaking of animals, let’s not forget Fun Run, the mother of multiplayer mobile racing games. Play as adorable animals such as a fluffy bunny or a blue bear, and win the game by reaching the finishing line first. Of course, you can sabotage your friends by using items and weapons, or where’s the fun in that?

Fun Run 3 is the third chapter of the series, so expect more mischief and mayhem with ridiculous item pickups.

Up to eight friends can be invited for a game, or team up with your partner to beat other people on the internet. You know what they say — it’s us against the world — unless you’ve been ripped into pieces by a bear trap.

Secret Neighbour

In 2020, COVID-19 brought about many multiplayer online games such as Covidopoly and Skribbl.io. This was mainly due to home quarantine and everyone just wanted some form of interaction with their friends. While there were many games released, one stood among all — Among Us.

The popularity of the game has died down, but we’ve found another game of teamwork and betrayal that could potentially take its place. Armed with better graphics, Secret Neighbour threatens to spill into your nightmares.

If you’re a millennial, this picture probably looks familiar to you. After all, how many of us spent our childhood in AuditonSEA “dancing” with our friends and *gasp, “couple”?

While the original game has unfortunately shut down in 2018, there are many remakes of the game from different developers, with AU2 Mobile-EN being one of them.

The gameplay and experience are strikingly similar, and there’s even a fashion store for you to get new costumes.

Couples can also date, get married, and have a baby in-game. It’s like real life but with a lot more glitter and sparkles.

Blade&Soul Revolution

Some may argue that Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) are just senseless hack-and-slash, but long-time gamers would beg to differ. These games give us an identity and a sense of responsibility — how else could we feel desired and wanted in life?

If your PC lacks the RAM and GPU power to support such games, download Blade&Soul Revolution on your phone instead. The multiplayer mobile game lets you choose from classes such as Gunslinger, Blade Master, Summoner, and more, so you can form a well-balanced team to fight bosses.

There’s even a pet system so you can bring along a furry companion to your quests. When you feel lonely, simply log on and forget your troubles.

Pico Tank

If you’re looking for something casual, Pico Tank would be it. The 3V3 battle royale is a fight of tanks. Three game modes will be given at random, so you can either blow up your opponent for the highest score, hold the flag for as long as you can, or fetch the cargo to your base ASAP for points.

More upgrades and customisations will be unlocked as you climb higher up the scoreboard, so the game gets progressively harder. However, the strongest friendships can withstand any storm — even if it’s missiles from above.

ARK: Survival Evolved

Oh to tame and ride on dinosaurs. That’s a prehistoric dream we all had in our childhoods. While the scientists are still working on cloning dinos from amber resins, we can at least play pretend in ARK: Survival Evolved.

Fight for survival by collecting materials and crafting weapons such as pickaxes and woodchoppers. These items will aid you in building the house of your dreams, which can be shared with your partner. Along the way, befriend or massacre some dinosaurs to help you along your journey.

If you choose to play on a private server, you can focus on creating an island you’d like. Playing on public servers may earn you some friends, but beware — people may turn hostile at any time and you may log in only to find burnt remains of your materials.

MapleStory M: Fantasy MMORPG

There’s a certain BGM (background music) playing in my head right now and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same for you too. MapleStory has long been hailed the king of online games since 2003 and in 2021, it still stands strong.

To make the game more accessible, developers have migrated the whole experience to mobile. However, the game experience in the multiplayer mobile stays almost the same, just that we’re limited to only four different weapon and armor types.
