Hiking?
If you had posed this question earlier in the year, I would have laughed in your face. Yet, I find myself drawn to this wildlife park that is opening in March 2025.
Rainforest Wild Asia is Singapore’s fifth wildlife park and it is also the first adventure-based zoo in Asia. Admittedly, what drew me to this is not the wildlife but the prospect of thrill.
Thrill-seekers will be pleased to find out that there will be various adventure elements in the park and guided tours are also available.
Free-falling has always been an item on my bucket list to strike off. The Adventure Plus package comes with experiences like Canopy Jump where interested participants will be able to free-fall safely from a 13m or 20m-high platform.
I understand that thrill-seeking isn’t for everyone. If you’re not a dopamine chaser, you can simply explore the 13 hectare park to your heart’s content. There are even multiple paths of various difficulties, so guests can choose their preferred course.
There also also pathways designed for wheelchair users and multi-generational families so feel free to bring your loved ones for a day out!
There are ten different zones to check out, with some being “multi-layered”. This means that there are paths below and above ground (pretty reminiscent of Chongqing terrain). While exploring, keep an eye out for the flora and fauna. During the development, close to 7,000 Southeast Asian trees and shrubs were planted to sustain the current protected rainforest.
Caves are one of the most interesting phenomena in the world. The Cavern is modelled after the world-famous Mulu Caves in Sarawak, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can spot species like racer snakes and giant black scorpions. For the less adventurous guests, there is a separate safer walkway to take.
You can’t talk about zoos without mentioning animals. We will be able to see animal species that are new to Singapore, such as one of the world’s rarest monkeys, Francois langur, the Philippine spotted deer, and more.
Flexible habitats will be introduced for the first time in Rainforest Wild Asia, meaning different animals will be featured at different times. This is to allow visitors to observe them in their most natural state.
If you’re feeling daring, you can also head over to “The Canopy” to check out the free-range animals, such as the Javan langur, red-shanked douc langur, siamang, and more.
This isn’t all they have to offer. The next phase, Rainforest Wild Africa draws inspiration from the landscape of the Afro-Tropical region and Madagascar. The expected opening for this will be announced at a later date.
Will you keep a day free in your calendar to head down?
