After a long day, nothing beats chowing down on grilled skewers with an ice-cold beer in hand.

Feel the same, and happen to stay in the east? Count yourself lucky, because Sa Tae Bak, the popular skewer bar on Bali Lane, has opened a second outlet along Changi Road.

Located an 11-minute walk from either Eunos or Kembangan MRT, the casual, dimly-lit eatery may not be the most convenient to get to, but it stand definitely stands out from the other F&B options in the area.

Despite being catered to couples, larger groups, and families, the space is super cosy, thanks to the eclectic mix of retro lamps and walls lined with wacky posters.

Don’t miss out on a visit to the washroom, which doubles as a quirky photo spot.

Food-wise, there are plenty of appetisers to start with, ranging from Edamame (S$5.50) and Grilled Ray Fin (S$8) — one of my all-time favourite snacks to pair with beer — to French Fries Mentaiko (S$9) and Fried Chicken Skin (S$7).

I highly recommend the Grilled Rice Ball Mentaiko (S$4.50), which sees a hand-molded rice ball (onigiri) slathered in rich mentaiko mayo and finished over the charcoal grill.

Moving on to the stars of the show, the menu at Sa Tae Bak boasts an extensive selection of skewers.

You won’t go wrong with their signature chicken options including Chicken Thigh w/ Japanese Leek (S$3), Mid Wing (S$3), and Meat Ball (S$3). Those who enjoy innards will also get to choose from the likes of Heart Artery (S$3), Gizzard (S$3), Tail (S$3), and Liver (S$3), so get ready to eat your heart out!

Pair your meats with their housemade sambal belacan that packs a real fiery punch.

As for pork, go for the Pork Cheek (S$3), Pork Belly w Onion (S$3) or the crowd favourites — Enoki Bacon (S$3) and Rice Cake Bacon (S$3), which feature juicy pork belly wrapped around enoki mushrooms or chewy tteokbokki, topped off with a miso mayo drizzle.

If you eat beef, do not miss out on the juicy, melt-in-mouth Japan A5 Wagyu Sirloin Beef Skewer (S$11), which I enjoyed a lot more than the leaner (but still succulent) Angus Ribeye Skewer (S$6.50).

Seafood lovers are also in for a treat, with dishes like Tiger Prawn Mentaiko (S$5.50), Grilled Unagi Skewer (S$5.50), and Grilled Scallop (S$5.50).

But that’s not all, as Sa Tae Bak Changi is also known for their creamy, plump, and luscious Fresh Oysters (S$18 for 3pcs) imported from Japan’s Hyōgo prefecture — they were practically the size of my palm!

Want to try a bit of everything? Your best bet would be to go for sharing platters like the Yaki Moriawase (S$69 for 2 pax), or Premium Sets catered towards those who prefer Beef (S$59), Pork (S$39), or even vegetarian options (Vege Yaki Moriawase, S$39).

Wash everything down with premium Kirin Ichiban Beer (S$9.90) on tap, and you’re all set!
