One of my favourite movie franchises of all time is Shrek. The movie franchise gave us four movies, two spin-offs, and countless memes. While it has been over 10 years since the last Shrek movie (Shrek Forever After), the green ogre from Far Far Away still manages to find its way back into our lives — whether it’s in the form of a pair of Crocs, or even an Airbnb stay!
That’s right, you can now get to experience what it’s like living as an ogre in Far Far Away as this Airbnb is giving you the chance to live in Shrek’s humble little abode. Interestingly, Shrek’s swamp is nestled among the hills of the Scottish Highlands — bet you didn’t see that coming especially with Shrek’s accent, did you?
But don’t be fooled by Shrek’s swamp. There’s actually plenty to do here like taking a leisure nature hike, going for a picturesque picnic, or even admiring the starry night sky — something you can’t do in the city.
Much like in the movies, Shrek’s humble little abode is pretty cosy and can fit up to three pax. And yes, everything here looks like it’s been taken right out of the movie, including the iconic “Keep Out” sign that greets you at the entrance. One thing’s for sure, disappointment will not haunt your dreams here.
Inside, you’ll be greeted with a familiar sight like the wooden dining table where he eats his breakfast alone. Remember how Shrek had to leave his cottage to do his business? Well, you’ll also have to do that here. But don’t worry, the toilet is just 20 metres away from the hut.
Other amenities include a fireplace and plenty of privacy — because if there’s one thing that Shrek loved the most, it was his privacy. And on that note, it might be worth mentioning that there is also no WiFi here.
As Donkey once said “This’ll be fun! We’ll stay up late swapping manly stories, and in the morning… I’m making waffles.” That’s right, after swapping stories at night, you’ll be greeted with fresh waffles in the morning, just like in the movies.
Speaking of Donkey, the Airbnb listing also states that the charming (and at times very annoying) Donkey will be your lovely host! Depending on how much you love him, this may or may not be a plus for some people.
