Did you know that it actually hails from Korea, by none other than the ever-so-popular Nudake, the dessert brand created by Gentle Monster? They were the first in the world to launch the colour-changing latte in popular flavours like matcha and black sesame. 

Well, what if I told you that you don’t have to travel all the way to Korea just to try it out?

From Bangkok to Jakarta and finally to Singapore, this latte is now available at B for Bagel in Tanglin Mall.

Flavours-wise, they have kept it simple with flavours that you can never do wrong like Matcha (S$7.90), Coffee (S$7.90), Chocolate (S$7.90), and Dirty Matcha (S$8.90). 

If you’re like me and have been wondering how they achieve that “cracking” effect, each cup is coated with a thick layer of luscious dark chocolate before the hot drink is poured in. 

Although I haven’t personally tried it out yet, I can definitely see how it is satisfying to see (and hear) the chocolate crack when you squeeze it — it’s basically edible art. 

Not only will you get to enjoy decadent chocolate pieces in your lattes, but they’ll definitely make for plenty of IG-worthy moments! 

It won’t be long before other cafes or bakeries come up with their own unique twist to the viral latte. I’m already looking forward to seeing the different variations or interesting flavours that might pop up — a taro or strawberry latte with white chocolate perhaps? 

But, if you find the queues at Tanglin Mall getting too long, you can also visit their outlets at Great World City or Parkway Parade to get the drink from 8 June onwards.

You may have heard about (or seen) the latest viral crookie, a cookie and croissant hybrid that’s been all the craze lately. 

The original crookie actually hails from France, specifically a Parisian bakery called Boulangerie Louvard. While it was created back in 2022, it wasn’t until recently that the crookie trend picked up. Since then, it has shown up in everybody’s FYP, making its way from New York to Australia and finally to Singapore. 

That being said, don’t run into the kitchen to try your hand at making the viral pastry just yet. Here are six bakeries in Singapore offering crookies in flavours like matcha-pistachio, double chocolate chip and more.

1. Sweedy Patisserie

Sweedy Patisserie was probably one of the first few bakeries to bring the viral pastry into Singapore. 

The freshly baked Crookie (S$7.80) uses a brown butter chocolate chip cookie dough, creating an intense and nutty aroma to compliment the buttery, flaky croissant — super indulgent. Alternatively, you can get a box of three priced at S$21 for sharing. 

Just like all cookies, you have to dunk your crookie into a glass of cold fresh milk to fully enjoy the sweet treat.

2. Nasty Cookie

When it comes to cookies, Nasty Cookie — Singapore’s first New York gourmet cookie store specialising in chunky and thicc cookies — has it all from biscoff to matcha lava-filled cookies. 

This halal-certified bakery has their very own Nasty Crookie (S$6.80, S$16 for box of three) using the signature chocolate chip cookie dough and croissants from Nastybakehouse (only at their outlets in Marina Square and Orchard Gateway!).

Imagine a crispy cookie-shell exterior with a warm, gooey chocolate chip centre, paired with the rich and the buttery croissant (yums). 

They also have more special flavours including Nasty Monster, Strawberry Pocky, S’mores, Birthday Cake, and Double Choc that will only be available at Orchard Gateway.

3. The French American Bakery

You may already be familiar with The French American Bakery, the popular Muslim-owned bakery best known for its popular hot chocolate topped off with a ring of marshmallow fluff. 

That being said, what better to pair the comforting beverage than the Le Crookie? 

The in-house pastry promises a flaky croissant, cookie dough and large chocolate buttons with every bite.

4. BreadTalk

Can’t decide between a cookie or croissant?

The ever-so-popular BreadTalk has hopped on the crookie bandwagon and came up with their own rendition of the crookie featuring three flavours such as Chocolate Chip Cookie, Red Velvet and Double Chocolate starting from S$3.30

Unlike the previous bakeries, BreadTalk has taken a unique spin to the crookie where it resembles a Danish puff pastry, allowing it to be stuffed with even more cookie dough and sprinkled with sea salt. 

Best yet, it can be purchased at all their outlets so I would hurry down now if I were you!

5. La Levain

If there is one bakery in Singapore that you can trust to keep up with the latest croissant trend, it is La Levain. 

Remember the La Lebomz (cream-filled circular croissants) and the recently introduced smashed croissant? 

Here’s another reason to drop by La Levain. 

The Chocolate Chip Crookie Croissant (S$6.80) boasts a gooey, chocolatey cookie dough with rich cacao barry chocolate chips, premium butter, and finished off with a drizzle of melted dark chocolate and icing sugar. 

This melt-in-your-mouth dessert is crunchy, gooey, crispy, and buttery all in one bite.

6. Swish Rolls

For those who are looking for a less sweet version of the crookie, Swish Rolls has got you covered. 

Although they have the original Chocolate Crookie (S$3.50), they also have a more unique flavour which is the Matcha Pistachio Mochi Crookie (S$3.50). It is filled with matcha and pistachio cookie dough, sandwiched in between their signature chewy mochi, drizzled with pistachio sauce, chopped roasted pistachio and uji matcha powder. 

The nutty aroma from the pistachio perfectly compliments the earthiness from the matcha so you can still enjoy the dessert without it being too jelak.

I’m not one who chases after viral food trends but when I saw this san.wich’s attractive sandwiches appearing all over my feed, I figured it was time to give them a go — and thankfully they didn’t disappoint. They have a wide selection of savoury and sweet sandwiches with prices ranging from S$2.80 to S$3.40 – super affordable for a loaded sandwich if you ask me.

What’s special about san.wich is their cutesy and colourful breads sporting colours like purple, green, orange, and yellow. The breads incorporate natural colouring from foods like Beetroot, Purple Sweet Potato, Tomato, and Pumpkin. If you struggle with getting your kids to eat their veggies, this is certainly one way to get them to start.

They had all your standard sandwich offerings like Tuna and Egg mayo (S$3), Chicken Ham with Egg Mayo (S$3), and Fish Fillet with Egg (S$2.80), as well as trendy fusion flavours like Soy Garlic Chicken Cutlet & Cheese with Egg (S$3.20), Chili Crab with Egg (S$2.80), and Ebi Patty with Egg (S$3.40). You can also pick the flavour of bread to pair with your sandwich of choice.

My favourite was the Soy Garlic Chicken Cutlet & Cheese with Egg. The chicken cutlet was thick and juicy with a crispy and crunchy skin. I also liked that the soy garlic flavour was not overpowering – it kinda tasted like a healthier version of the KFC Zinger burger.

If you’re looking for some Korean-inspired flavours, I recommend getting this over the Spicy Korean Chicken with Kimchi & Egg (S$3.20).

Another sando that was a hit was the Nyonya Curry Chicken with Egg (S$3). I was surprised by the flavourful curry that was slightly sweet and not spicy but still super shiok. It was like a curry puff but sandwich form – not something that you would expect from a sandwich shop. 

They were also pretty generous with the curry filling and every bite gave a good balance of flavours from the curry, bread, egg and veggies. 

The Chicken Cutlet & Pumpkin with Egg (S$3) was also a surprise. The chicken was juicy, kinda similar to the chicken patty used for the soy garlic chicken cutlet. The pumpkin added a touch of sweetness to the primarily bold savoury flavours. 

For the sweet options, I had the Kit Kat Brownie Sandwich (S$3.20) and the Assorted Fruits Sandwich (S$3.20). The Kit Kat sandwich, while dominated by mostly chocolate flavours, wasn’t overly sweet.

 The chocolate cream also helped to balance the sweetness from the actual Kit Kat – yes, the sandwich had actual Kit Kat pieces. 

I preferred the Assorted Fruits sandwich which featured a generous serving of fresh cream, peach, strawberry, and kiwi. My only gripe is that I wished that the sandwiches were a little more dense to hold the filling in place while you devour them. 

If you’re in the area looking for something to fill your tummy, you should definitely check out San.Wich. Their sandwiches are generously packed with filling and flavour. Best of all they’re affordably priced so you won’t worry about breaking the bank trying these aesthetic sandos!
