One of the best food combinations in the world has definitely got to be Korean fried chicken and beer — or as the Koreans call it, chimaek.
Fans of Korean fried chicken, you’re in luck as we’ve got a new haunt for you to get your chimaek fix.
The popular Korean chimaek chain, Daily Beer, has finally opened their first international outlet in Singapore! The cosy store is located in Telok Ayer and brings their juicy fried chicken along with specialty craft beers to sunny Singapore.
To give you some context, Daily Beer is hugely popular in Korea, with over 370 outlets. They’ve also got quite the celebrity following, with loyal fans including the cast of Running Man and even actress Kim Da Mi. That’s right, you can eat the same thing that Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Jong Kook and Haha ate!
Here, you can look forward to sinking your teeth into a wide range of fried chicken flavours alongside classic korean street snacks like tteobokki and more.
But, a must-try here is definitely their Angry Bird fried chicken range — yes that’s actually the name of the chicken, cute right?
My go-to Korean fried chicken order is always a nice garlic soy and the Angry Bird Black definitely hits all the right spots. The chicken is fried to a crisp before being doused in a sticky salty-sweet garlic soy sauce. It is sweet and juicy with a robust garlic fragrance that elevates the flavours of the chicken.
The Angry Bird Crunch (from S$29.90) is another must-try, especially if you’re a hardcore garlic-lover like myself. It comprises crispy fried chicken dusted in a spicy-sweet garlic seasoning and crunchy cornflake bits.
This definitely ticked all the right boxes when it comes to fried chicken. It was crunchy, juicy, fragrant and oh-so addictive. I personally feel that this flavour is best enjoyed in the boneless option. There’s also dipping sauces provided to give your chicken some extra flavour, but I personally think they’re good as is.
Spice lovers must definitely get the Angry Bird Red (from S$29.90) which is the classic pairing of sticky, sweet and spicy yangnyeom sauce with fried chicken. For something a little more unique, the Kimchi (from S$29.90) may be right up your alley with its sour-zingy kimchi powder dusted over the crispy fried chicken.
Daily Beer’s menu also features the Original Angry Bird (from S$27.90) which is regular double-fried chicken — great for those who prefer to stick to the classics. As someone who usually goes for bold flavours, I actually found this to be quite enjoyable, especially the very satisfying crunch from the chicken skin.
For sides, you definitely must get the Cheese Balls (S$12). The cheese balls are chewy with a very satisfying cheese pull — make sure to get your cameras ready for this. The cheese is lightly sweet and savoury while the outside is nice and crunchy. This was by far one of the best renditions of the dish I’ve tried.
Daily Beer also has six beers on tap here, with the selections ranging from a light and sweet K-Festbier (from S$14), to a rich Telok Hazy IPA (from S$15) and Seoul Weizen (from S$13). But, the drink that comes highly recommended is the K-Ginseng Lager (from S$13) which is brewed with actual Korean ginseng.
Fun fact: Daily Beer Singapore’s motto is “no beer, no work” — with such an inspiring motto on the wall, it’d be rude to not have any, am I right? If you’re looking for a fun TGIF spot with friends, make sure to hit this place up!
Chimaek for TGIF anyone?
