If you’re the sort who tends to hog the entire bowl of orh nee at Teochew restaurants, here’s a local bakery best known for their taro-infused treats you need to check out.

Tucked away in Tanjong Pagar is The French Pastry, an orh nee fanatic’s dream come true and former home-based business specialising in French confections with locally-inspired flavours.

For those new to the bakery, the Signature Orh Nee Petit Gâteaux Box (from S$29), which serves up to four, is your best bet. You’ll get to sample bestselling orh nee creations like the Signature Orh Nee Mille Crêpes, Orh Nee Salted Egg Choux Puff, and Orh Nee Mochi Soufflé Roll.

The latter is composed of soft and delicate souffle sponge rolled up with orh nee cream and chewy milk mochi bites, topped with mochi, ginko nuts, and even more orh nee.

But if you’re ordering for a larger group to share, take your pick from the impressive repetoire of whole cakes in flavours like tiramisu, strawberry cheese, and of course, orh nee.

Sesame and orh nee lovers can enjoy the best of both worlds in the form of the Sesame & Orh Nee Mochi Mille Crepes (S$48), a gluten-free confection comprising purple yam-scented mochi-style crepes, orh nee-infused pastry cream, and sesame praline cream, topped with gingko nuts and roasted sesame-coated mochi cubes.

Old-school flavours are given a modern twist in the Orh Nee Lava Chiffon (S$28), which consists of purple yam-infused chiffon sponge filled with delicate orh nee lava, topped with candied ginko nuts.

It’s an overload of orh nee, but who’s complaining?

Orh nee not for you? Notable mention goes to the unconventional Pandan Avocado Gâteau (from S$50), which sees pandan-infused soufflé sponge layered with fresh avocado cream, encased in a French crepe and mascarpone mousse, and lastly, topped with pandan coconut cream.

It’s also available as a chiffon cake if you prefer to keep it even more old-school.

Tell me, is taro on your mind today? If so, why not hit up The French Pastry for everything orh nee?
