Local rapper Yung Raja opens SG’s first dosa taco joint in One-North

What do you get when you marry Indian and Mexican food? The answer to that question can be found at The Maha Co., a hip new cafe in Fusionopolis by local rapper Yung Raja.

The concept behind dosa and tacos are pretty much the same, so why not dosa tacos? It’s something I can totally get behind.

The walls are plastered with Bollywood and Mexican posters. A refurbished food truck serving as the cafe’s counter sits right smack in the centre. It’s a funky space that screams “good vibes all around”.

The stars of the show are, of course, the dosa tacos. The dosa batter is handmade using Yung Raja’s mother’s traditional recipe, so you don’t have to worry about being fed the pre-packaged stuff.

Choose from a menu of six novel creations, including Guacamole + Salsa (S$5.90), Crispy Chicken + Cucumber Yogurt (S$6.90), and Roast Pork + Mexican Slaw (S$7.50). There’s even a sweet version that puts a spin on the classic crêpe, the PB Nutella + Ice Cream (S$6.50).

If you prefer the South Indian staple in all its glory, go for the purist-friendly Plain + Vegetable Curry (S$4.50).

The dosa tacos are flanked by a modest selection of sides, all-day breakfast items, and desserts. The Maha Co.’s fusion streak continues with Nachos + Curry Con Carne (S$11.90) and the unabashedly Thai-inspired Coconut Gelato + Mango Croissant (S$7.50).

I’m craving for dosa as we speak, but I live nowhere near One-North. Of course.
