Unpopular opinion: Bukit Timah Hill is not a climb. At 538 feet above sea level, hiking to its peak should be an easy feat! Just kidding. But seriously, if you’ve been wanting a bigger challenge, look no further than one of our favourite spots in Malaysia — Genting Highlands.
While most of us head to Genting for thrilling roller coaster rides, relaxation, and gambling (of course), you can consider going for a guided hike in the lush greenery as well!
The Awana Trail is a 2km guided hike that takes around two hours to complete. While it’s about 2800 feet above sea level, the trail is actually quite manageable, so there isn’t an age limit to join the tour.
You can expect to see various monkeys, tropical birds and other kinds of wildlife that you won’t come across in Singapore. The tour guide will also point out biodiversity unique to the area, so you’ll have an idea of what to look out for.
The five to 20 pax tour operates daily at 9am and 3pm, and costs 20RM per pax (free for children aged six and below).
Does this route sound a little too easy for all of you fitspos? Opt for the more challenging Clearwater Way hike instead.
This trail is actually located along a valley between two steep mountain slopes, and it’s a whopping 2800 to 4500 feet above sea level! The 3km guided hike will take around four hours, and it’s certainly not as easy as the Awana Trail — according to Resorts World, only regular and seasoned hikers are recommended to take this on.
The route includes the picturesque Montane Oak Forest, Fishtail Falls, and more, and you’ll even find rare plants that don’t grow anywhere else!
The Clearwater Way tour costs RM50 per pax and is only available at 9.30am on weekends (5 to 20 pax), with a minimum age requirement of 16 years old. Children above 10 are also allowed to join as long as they’re accompanied by a parental guardian.
