At CHOMP!, it’s all about their signature curry rice, where a generous ladle of curry is poured over, creating a deliciously ‘overflowing’ effect.

The crowd-favourite is undeniably their Supreme Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice, featuring deep-fried chicken accompanied by braised vegetables and an egg.

I personally like my curry rice to be kept simple (it’s the same for cai fan, by the way), so I’d gravitate towards the Chicken Curry Rice. If beef is more your thing, opt for the Beef Rendang Rice.

On the other hand, their Batang Fish Curry Rice and Fried Fish Curry Rice are suitable for seafood lovers.

What’s great is that all these dishes are priced between just S$5.90 to S$7.90, so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy them! In this economy, affordable meals are practically a blessing, so we’re not complaining!

And, the best part? The curry is free-flow, so don’t feel paiseh — go ahead and ask for more!

Aside from rice, CHOMP! also serves up local noodle dishes such as Fishball Noodles and the signature Laksa FaFa. The Fishball Noodles are available in both dry and soup versions, while the Laksa are topped with Dahfa codfish for an added crunch.

Oh, and all their noodle dishes are under S$5. Amazing.

Pair your rice or noodles with a refreshing Lime Juice for an extra S$1 or a fun Lime Juice Ice Pop for S$2.

Another item you’ve to get is their Curry Toast Benedict with Crispy Dahfa Codfish (S$4.80). Two sous-vide eggs sit atop toast, with a further topping of rich curry. It’s all very gao, so make sure you’ve got your drink handy.

These drinks can be their Iced Boom Kopi (S$3.80), Teh (S$3.80), or Yuan Yang (S$4). Just like their ‘overflowing’ curry, their Iced Boom drinks are served with an ‘overflow’ too — don’t worry though, a small plate sits beneath the cup to catch any spills.

Or, embrace nostalgia by getting the Ice Pop (S$2) that comes in a wide array of flavours like Milo, Pink Lychee Lemonade, and Cucumber Lemonade. I’d totally grab these when the heat is simply unbearable!

If you’re not in the North-East, getting to CHOMP! might be a bit of a journey as you’ll need to hop off at Kangkar LRT station. But it’s worth it as who can resist free-flow curry and ‘overflowing’ coffee?

In other words, it’s a dish that one (aka me) can eat weekly.

Due to its popularity, it should come as no surprise that hotpot places are increasingly becoming more creative (or should generous be the better word?) with their offerings in order to stand out from the rest.

With this, I would like to direct your attention to the Heart Garden Hotpot at Johor Bahru. As it’s located conveniently at Taman Mount Austin, you can head on over after your hair or nail appointment at one of the many salons around the corner.

The reason why I mention “generous” is because this particular hotpot restaurant offers an impressive variety of foods and beverages at just S$19.53++ (RM68++) per diner.

Don’t expect only your standard soup bases to be served here. While you can find the classic Mala, Pork Bone and Tom Yum, their Nanyang Curry and Tiger Prawn are the real stars of the show. 

There’s even a La La option, where the clams are cooked on the spot and directly in the pot.

Food-wise, there are tons of meats and seafood to choose from. As a self-proclaimed seafood lover, I will naturally gravitate towards the likes of King Prawns, Baby Octopuses, Abalone Slices, Scallops, Barramundi Fish, Shrimp Paste.

Meat lovers, don’t worry—there’s plenty for you too, like Beef Tripe, Beef Shank, Beef Round, Pork Belly & many more.

For those who are adventurous like me, do not miss this opportunity to include the Duck Blood as well.

Regardless if you’re a glutton or not, you have to accompany your hotpot with Lok Lok skewers, which are highly raved about by regulars. Pick your favourite meats, vegetables and more, and the restaurant staff will take care of the rest.

In fact, the restaurant staff is so attentive and helpful that they even provide a complimentary prawn peeling service. 

I absolutely hate peeling my own prawns, so this is perfect. This means you’ll be able to freely order their cooked side dishes like Mala Tiger Prawn and Kam Heong Prawn without thinking twice.

This place is a favourite amongst locals, thanks to its great prices, wide selection of foods and awesome service. Trust me when I say you’ll want to make a reservation to avoid not getting a table, especially once it becomes a hotspot for Singaporeans.

I guess it also goes without saying that this is a necessity if you’re planning to come down during weekends and public holidays.

For a small fee of S$2.03 (RM7), you can enjoy free flow of condiments from the sauce station, their signature Eight Treasures Tea, ice cream and fruits. 

To make the best use of your unlimited sauces and ice cream, you might want to check out our guide on hotpot hacks here. Imagine pairing Shuguo Yinxiang’s matcha ice cream with the deep-fried Glutinous Brown Sugar Cake — mmm, delicious! (They offer vanilla yoghurt and chocolate ice cream as well.)

You won’t find the service to be inferior to that of other well known hotpot chains, and what’s even better are the performances that take place daily!

Be awed by the nimble kung fu techniques of the tea master, skillfully making you a pot of flower tea while handling a long-spout copper pot filled with scalding hot water. And try your best to spot the secret behind the mask as the face-changing performer comes up close to interact with the audiences!

From Sundays to Thursdays, the Sichuan opera face-changing performance will take place at 7.30pm and 9.30pm, while the kung fu tea performance will take the 8pm and 8.30pm slots. On Fridays and Saturdays however, you’ll be treated to extra shows from the kung fu tea master from 8pm to 10pm, and the face-changing performances will be on 7.30pm and 9.30pm instead.

You can also get a tiny show from the tea master when he comes to fill your cup of Eight Treasures Kung Fu Tea. 

While you’re enjoying the performances, don’t forget to try out their signature pots and dishes! Shuguo Yinxiang is highly rated for their rich soup bases like Mala, Beauty Collagen, Tomato and especially the Sour Cabbage Duck Soup which is great for working up an appetite.

Some of their must-try dishes are Shuguo Strings, Bamboo Flute Prawn Paste, Tako Cheese Ball, Dry Mala Bull Frog and Morel Mushroom. 

There are, of course, even more options — in fact, you’ll probably be agonising over the 200 choices that you can pick from. You can take your time though, the restaurant opens till 2am. 

If you’re gathering for a special event, you might want to consider booking their private rooms with a KTV so you can party and sing while gorging on some good food.

According to reviews, the average damages come up to around S$30++ (RM103.55++) per person. Considering the great sea view by the windows, the entertaining performances and limitless flow of fruits, desserts and sauces, it’s quite the steal.

The Wong Fu Fu Indomie collaboration is available now until 8 October 2023 and marks the first time the popular instant noodle brand is collaborating with a restaurant in Singapore. Wong Fu Fu is also halal-certified which means everyone is welcomed to try these fancy Indomie creations. Plus, you get to enjoy your favourite dishes alongside free-flow bubble tea — truly the best of both worlds. 

On the menu are four dishes specially curated by Chef Ilya, each paired with special flavoured Indomie. These dishes are the Grilled Kicap Manis Stuffed Squid with Seafood (from S$22.90), Indomie Rendang Burger (from S$21.90), Grilled Beef Striploin with house-made Kicap Manis (from S$19.90), and Taiwanese Fried Chicken with Turmeric Spices (from S$15.90). 

Each dinner or weekend set menu will also entitle you to the mini buffet and free-flow drinks bar where you can DIY your own bubble tea — Indomie and free-flow DIY bubble tea? It doesn’t get any better than this. 

Probably the most interesting creation is the Indomie Rendang Burger which features special house-made grilled beef and chicken patty sandwiched between two Indomie “buns” and a dollop of Indomie Rendang Mayo — yes, it is exactly as it sounds. It’s kinda like a rice burger but made with Indomie. 

In true Taiwanese fashion, there is also one that features the signature Taiwanese fried chicken which comes with a side of tamago bergedil. The Taiwanese fried chicken is also paired with a special Indomie flavour —- you’ll have to try it to find out what exactly it is. 

There’s also one for the seafood lovers and one for meat lovers. The Grilled Kicap Manis Stuffed Squid with Seafood is literally seafood paradise —- fresh succulent seafood and Indomie? Yes please. The Grilled Beef Striploin with house-made kicap manis on the other hand, truly takes your regular Indomie up ten notches. 

That’s not all. Apart from feasting on your hearty Indomie cooked to perfection, you can also stand a chance to win one year’s supply of Indomie. If you’re a super hardcore fan of Indomie, you’ll wanna take notes. 

To qualify for the lucky draw, you’ll first need to order at least two Indomie menu items in a single receipt. You’ll also need to like and follow Indomie Singapore and Wong Fu Fu on social media.
