Nian nian you yu!

It’s a little early for Chinese New Year but how can I resist Ya Ge’s festive menu for the Year for the Snake?

First, we kick things off with an auspicious appetiser – the Crispy Golden Eel and Yellowtail Yusheng which is available in set menus and takeaways. This visually stunning dish comes in the shape of a snake, and features a charming mango-flavoured Koi Fish pudding, adding a delightful sweetness to it. There are also hints of passion fruit which elevates the dish with a refreshing citrusy burst, making it a standout starter.

Nothing beats a comforting bowl of soup on a rainy day, and the Double-boiled Superior Soup with Whole Chicken and Shark’s Fin stuffed in Pig’s Maw delivers. The dish comes in the S$788++ Prosperity Set Menu. The warm, peppery broth hits all the right spots, leaving you feeling cosy and satisfied. This is a must-try for soup lovers.

The 10-head Abalone, White Shiitake Mushroom with Braised Pork Trotter is a rich, indulgent dish perfect for sharing. The tender dry-aged pork just melts in your mouth, packed with savoury goodness. I wish I had gotten a bowl of steamed white rice which would have been the ultimate experience. Do note that this dish is available in the S$1188++ Opulent Set Menu.

The Stir-fried Australian Lobster with Truffle Oil, Pine Nuts, Hokkaido Milk and Asparagus was my absolute favourite. I’m not a usual fan of seafood but this unassuming dish is a masterpiece of textures and flavours. The chef’s blend of creamy Hokkaido milk, egg white, and truffle just pairs beautifully with the tender lobster meat. This dish is only available in the S$2488++ Success Set Menu.

Other crowd-pleasers include the aromatic Smoked Herb-infused Irish ‘Pipa’ Duck and the hearty Claypot Chicken Rice with Chicken Sausage and Grilled Eel, which comes in the S$1488++ Blissful Set Menu. Both were instant hits around the table, showcasing Ya Ge’s versatility in balancing tradition and innovation.

No meal is complete without dessert, and Ya Ge doesn’t disappoint. The Chilled Plum Jelly with Fresh Berries, Yoghurt Raspberry Pudding offers a unique end to the meal. The yoghurt was surprisingly dry yet bouncy which is intriguing. Personally, the sour plum jelly is more of an acquired taste. Luckily, this dish is available in various set menus.

I’m not usually one for festivities but Ya Ge’s impressive menu already has me planning my next visit.

Will you bring your loved ones down to try this out?
