When I was a legal teenager (don’t try to guess my age now), I used to jump around various nightclubs around Singapore with no care in the world about music. My main goal was to get drunk (sorry, mom) and have a good time with my friends.
Well, not anymore, as I’ve become a whole lot pickier with my music choices.

If you’re like me and are looking for places with especially good tunes or simply want a new place to hang out, you should come on down to Behind The Green Door for your next TGIF plans.

This club used to be a staple in Bali’s nightclub scene before temporarily closing its doors in the ever-bustling Canggu area. Thankfully, it has received a second lease of life right here on our shores, thanks to Kilo Collective Concept.
Situated along Duxton Road, the club is hard to miss. Look for a green, neon-lit door that perfectly matches its name. For those familiar with the now-defunct Kilo Restaurant, the club occupies its former site.

The interior is similar to its Bali counterparts, with lush greenery hanging from the ceiling. I can almost say I’m partying in a tropical jungle — one that’s air-conditioned and indoors, of course.
The music selection is varied here, featuring genres spanning house, afrobeats, disco, hip hop, R&B and garage. Since its opening, a bunch of international DJs have played their sets, such as French ex-footballer Djib Ciss, UK-based Konflict, and Newman from New York City.

Nightclubs do not have the best reputation when it comes to drinks but this place is an exception. Here, party-goers can sip on artfully crafted Balinese-inspired cocktails while dancing their hearts out.

Calling all my fellow ladies, do make sure to swing by on Thursdays for their Sips & Drips programme, during which amapiano, hip hop and R&B are spun. Not only is there a free cover charge but ladies are entitled to one welcome drink.

You can expect guest DJs to spin their unique sets almost every weekend. An example is DJ Sudi from Los Angeles, who boasts his signature diasporic dance rhythms with a South Asian flare. His tunes feature a new kind of afrobeats — AfroDesi — a fusion between Bollywood classics and African rhythms.

Presale generally goes from S$25, while entrance fees are from S$35.
Are you gonna party the night away?
