This affordable DIY studio in Johor Bahru has tufting, pottery and painting workshops from just S$30 per person

Tufting has been really popular ever since the pandemic, and it doesn’t look like the hype is dying down anytime soon, even in 2023. However, even such harmless hobbies can grow to be expensive in Singapore, with one tufting session costing up to hundreds of dollars.

Luckily, an affordable tufting studio has opened up in Johor Bahru, which will only cost you around S$40 for a cute custom rug!

Good Times DIY & Lifestyle Studio is located less than 20 minutes away from the Johor Bahru checkpoint at Toppen Shopping Centre. Being a DIY studio, they offer other workshops like wheel throwing sessions, hand building pottery, painting and more from S$34.99 (RM120).

The most eye-catching of all are the rows and rows of colourful yarn that adorn the shelves along the walls of the tufting section, calling out to you to start making art out of those wonderful gradient colours.

The studio will provide a tufting gun, a cloth, rug tufting frames, fabric adhesive, and felt finishes. Of course, you’ll be able to take your pick of colours of yarn as well. For those who are new to tufting, there will be guidance from the teachers, so there’s no need to worry about screwing up!

Prices start from S$40.82 (RM140) per person, for a 1.5 hour session with a frame size of 40cm x 40cm. If you’re looking for something larger to pretty up the empty floors of your house, there are plenty of different sizes for you to choose from, up to a frame size of 80cm x 80 cm (S$67.07/RM230).

Enrol with two of your friends or family to get a free acrylic pouring bear brick, that’s not to be confused with the expensive collectible BE@RBRICK — they just happen to look similar!

Good Times also has two other outlets in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, of which the one in KL happens to be the largest tufting studio in Malaysia. No need to worry about not being able to grab a spot anymore when the room can fit your entire extended family or friend group.

If you’re not the biggest fan of rugs, how about turning your tufted creation into a tote bag, pillow or mirror with Tufting Nuts, another affordable tufting workshop in JB?

No matter which tufting workshop you choose, you can be sure to have a good time (see what I did there?). Don’t let your long weekends go to waste, so make your bookings here now!
