How often have you found yourself along the Tanjong Pagar stretch, having had a bit too much to drink and craving some simple, satisfying Korean food? I know I have — more times than I can count!
Well, there’s no need to search any longer as this spot is set to become your favourite go-to after a night out, especially since it’s open 24 hours.
Hansik Dining Collective is one unique concept, bringing six restaurants together under one roof. It’s an ambitious move by Eon and Annabelle Lee, the duo who introduced authentic Korean chicken to Singapore with Kko Kko Na Ra.
Yup, it’s safe to say they’ve turned Tanjong Pagar into a de facto Koreatown, and they’re set to transform it even further with more impressive Korean restaurants.
Aside from Kko Kko Na Ra, you’ll find The GoGi Jip, Halmae Gukbab, Hanyang Bulgogi, ChungSa ChoRong, and My Patio. The first three sit on level one, while the last two and Kko Kko Na Ra are on level two.
Do note that the second floor is only open till 2am (due to alcohol restrictions, bummer).
We obviously had to dig into some banchan (side dishes) to start off. From the classic kimchi and kkakdugi to namul, each side dish was perfectly seasoned, refreshing, and, best of all, free-flow — so no complaints here!
We were served Bulgogi Jeongol (from S$65 for 500g) that’s cooked mookata-style with broth on the side. Sweet potato noodles, chives, and peppers complete the dish. What can I say? The broth was hearty and soothing, while the bulgogi was tender and sweet.
We also had the Stone Plate Bibimbap, which you have the option to choose from meats like bulgogi beef, pork, and octopus. Feel free to sit back and enjoy a glass of beer as the waitstaff mixes your bibimbap on the spot, complete with a raw egg and house-made sauce.
I often find bibimbap a bit too heavy but this one was surprisingly light and balanced, making it the perfect complement to the Bulgogi Jeongol for a satisfying, communal meal.
As my dining partner and I are huge fans of raw marinated crabs, we had to order the Ganjang Gejang (S$85) as well. And, we weren’t disappointed — the crab roe was abundant, and the soy sauce added a rich depth. I loved drizzling a little over my hot rice for an extra burst of flavour.
These were all paired with their house-made Kimchi (from S$10), adding a perfect crunchy kick between dishes. Just a heads-up: the spice level is pretty intense and that’s coming from someone with a high spice tolerance (yes, I’m bragging a bit).
The food is incredibly authentic and the interior matches that vibe perfectly. I’m gonna go so far as to say I almost forgot I was in Singapore. Both levels are beautifully decorated with Korean flowers and fauna, transporting you straight to Korea.
Will this be your new late-night supper spot?
