Get your fix of authentic street eats like shine muscat crepe, wagyu bao, unagi skewers & more at this Japanese food fair in NEX

I hate to admit it (because I’m not there), but one of the best times to visit Japan is in autumn.

As much as I’d love to drop everything and hop on a plane bound for Tokyo, a faster and more affordable alternative would be to head over to Momiji Matsuri by ISETAN, where autumnal flavours take center stage.

The highly anticipated Japanese food festival held at NEX Atrium is taking place from now till 29 October 2023, featuring an array of street food delicacies, sweet treats, and fresh produce from 30 renowned Japanese brands.

If you want to sink your teeth into an autumnal delight or two, head straight for the exclusive Pumpkin Croquettes (S$3.50) from Mitamura; Danish Taiyaki with Sweet Potato Cream (S$5.50) from Arashimaya Le Mans; and Chestnut Okawa (S$9.50), a Japanese chestnut-infused sticky rice dish from Ijima Shoten.

If you’ve been to previous ISETEN fairs, chances are you’ll probably recognise the popular Eel Skewers (S$4) from the famous Tsukiji Unagi Shokudo, as well as Takoyaki (S$9) from Nakayama Shokuhin.

Beef lovers must visit Niku Master for their new wagyu creations, the first being Nikumaki Kiritampo (rice and wagyu wrapped around a stick), and the other, a tantalising Wagyu Bao (from S$6)

Before moving on to dessert, finish off with Hiroshima Okonomiyaki (S$14), Crab Stick with Avocado Mayo (from S$12.80), or Marunoya Salted Karaage (S$7.80), freshly fried chicken kaarage.

Speaking of sweet treats, this is your sign to try one of Harajuku’s most popular desserts — the exquisite Shine Muscat Crepe (S$10) from Fruits Café TOKIO, comprising freshly made crepe filled with delicate whipped cream and Japanese Shine Muscat grapes.
