Be it a quick lunch or a picnic with friends, we can also count on the sushi from Don Don Donki to deliver. It’s tasty, good-quality, and affordably priced — what’s not to like?

If you live in the West, here’s a piece of good news to brighten up your day: the Japanese discount chain’s latest store in Jurong Point, its 14th outlet in Singapore, has unveiled a new casual made-to-order sushi concept, Sen Sen Sushi.

Although the in-store eatery was previously launched in Bangkok and Hong Kong, this is Sen Sen Sushi’s first time on our shores, much to the delight of us sushi-loving Singaporeans.

The brightly lit eatery is located right at the entrance of Don Don Donki, with plenty of seats for dine-in customers.

The ordering process is simple — look through the available ingredients displayed at the counter and place your orders via an order chit, after which you’ll be handed a buzzer for collection.

Simply wait for your sushi, all of which are freshly made to order, and tuck in!

There are three types of sushi to choose from: nigiri, gunkan, and maki, with a separate section on the menu dedicated to the art of aburi (flame-torched) sushi.

You can get the likes of Sanma, Amaebi, and Maaji (Horse Mackerel) for as low as S$1, but most varieties of sushi are priced from S$1.50 to S$5, with the exception of premium options like Fresh Sea Urchin (S$12), Honmaguro Otoro with Uni (S$6), and Aburi Wagyu (S$6).

There’s no better time to customise the sushi platter of your dreams! Indulge in all your favourites like Hotate (S$2), Fresh Salmon (S$1.50), and Aburi Unagi (S$1).

We also highly recommend treating yourself to the juicy, melt-in-mouth Aburi Wagyu Beef — both the Sukiyaki and the savoury Negishio variations.

But if you can’t be bothered to make your own sushi platter, go for one of the sets, like the crowd-pleasing Fresh Salmon Set (S$6.50), comprising Salmon, Aburi Salmon, Aburi Mentai Mayo Salmon, and Aburi Teriyaki Mayo Salmon.

If you want to take it to the next level by pairing your sushi with Japanese sake, you can take your pick from a selection of chilled sake with different taste profiles.

Even better — why not grab a friend, sit at the bar counter, order all the sushi you can eat, and wash everything down with a bottle of sake?

The entire concept of made-to-order sushi at pocket-friendly prices in a Don Don Donki is pretty enticing — be prepared to brave the queues, especially during peak hours.

Is this worth travelling all the way to Jurong for? You be the judge!
