If you grew up in the 90’s, chances are Blue’s Clues was one of your favourite shows on TV. Well, was mine, and many other friends. But amidst all the laughter and fun, something did leave a deep etch on my memory — when Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns left “to go to college”.
Yesterday, we got some “mail time, mail time, mail tiiiimee” as we wag our tails to receive a video message from Steve in commemoration of Blue’s Clues’ 25th Anniversary. The video left many people in a teary mess, including me.
Nobody was expecting it when Nickolodeon posted a video of Burns in his full green-striped getup. The video has racked up millions of views in just a few hours, with many people saying how glad they were to get some closure after all these years.
Steve reminisces about the Blue’s Clues days when we used to hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and wrote on his handy dandy notebook, and just the fun shenanigans we were up to when we were small.
And then one day, he just announced: “I’m leaving. Here’s my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend.” Steve realized his departure from Blue’s Clues was “kind of abrupt” and wanted to talk about it. Yeah, it’s tough to lose a friend when you’re a kid.
It was a heartflet message where he told us he proud of us and validated all our struggles since then with our student loans, family, and jobs even though some of it has been kinda hard. And more importantly, he has never forgotten us and glad we’re stilll friends.
Stop, I’m not crying you’re crying.
Thank you Steve, Blue’s Clues was such a big part of our childhoods that we really needed this during these tough pandemic times.
This does take away the sting a little, especially with all the rumours that Steve had originally quit Blue’s Clues due to a drug addiction and other insidious allegations.
But now we know, he really left for college and has been thinking of us throughout all this time. In fact, he even came out in 2014 to list his accelerating balding as one of the reasons for leaving as he didn’t want kids to have to see it live on TV.
It’s good to finally get closure, eh?
