If there’s one cuisine we know Singaporeans love, it’s Thai — as evidenced by the crowds at Chatuchak Night Market 2023. However, we heard that this’ll be the last time Thai vendors will be flown in for the event. Bummer. No worries, though, we’ve got your back! If you’re craving for some authentic Thai food, look no further than The Addiction Bistro in Sembawang.
The establishment houses Golden Mile Mookata & Thai Food, a stall helmed by a chef from Thailand — need I say more?
First up, we tried the Yum Mama (from S$12), an instant noodle salad that boasted generous amounts of seafood. The noodles were cold, tangy, and spicy, and the clams were juicy and fresh — the perfect start to our meal, but not the best for those who don’t have a high spice tolerance (like me).
For something more unique, check out their Signature Thai Spaghetti (from S$8) that features flavours like green curry, basil and more. I would have preferred the Tom Yum Spaghetti to have a little more of an al dente texture with less tomato taste and more — well, tom yum, but it was still pretty flavourful and made for a good fusion dish.
If you’re in the mood for seafood, you can also opt for their Steamed Fish (U.P. S$29). This oh-so-tender fish was one of my favourite dishes with its sour-spicy sauce that had refreshing hints of lemongrass. Plus, you can even enjoy it for just S$19.90 with their limited time promotion (while stocks last)!
Now, for the mookata.
Unlike the standard gas grills most mookata outlets use, this particular stall uses charcoal — and you can really taste the difference. The vegetable broth was bursting with umami right from the start, and the smokiness of the charcoal added even more depth to it.
Their ingredients are affordably priced, with options like bacon (S$6.90), meatballs (S$4.90) and even scallops (S$4.90). If you’re feeling a little more bougie, you can also get premium items like marbled beef (200g, S$18.90), mussels (S$10.90), and more.
Interestingly, they also serve up bak kwa (S$11.90) for you to grill — leave it to cook for a longer time to get the perfect char.
Can’t decide what to get? Opt for the S$39.90 set, which comes with a large variety of meats, vegetables and seafood. For the price point, I’d say the portions are pretty generous and value for money — this platter could probably feed around three to four!
Of course, what’s mookata without drinks? You can get Thai milk tea (S$2.50), fresh coconuts (S$5), or even a beer bucket of five bottles for just S$25 (only with mookata orders).
If you’re a paw-rent, you’ll also be delighted to know that The Addiction Bistro is pet-friendly, so feel free to enjoy your delectable meal in the company of your furkids!
