Spend a night in a decommissioned MRT train or bus at these unique boutique hotels with private toilets, a bathtub & more

Choo Choo! Welcome aboard!

We are all well familiar with the MRT trains, But now, instead of being just a means of transportation, these decommissioned SMRT train carriages have been given a new lease of life by being transformed into a boutique co-living hotel — taking your regular nap on the train to a whole new level.

Train Pod @ one-north is located at the public car park next to Blk 69 Ayer Rajah Crescent, the co-living train hotels are developed by local startup Tiny Pod and will feature a total of eight rooms, each equipped with an attached bathroom.

Keeping in line with the MRT theme, you can expect to find the train map hung on the walls, along with the iconic metal handlebars and white handrails on  the ceiling, which doubles up as hanging racks for you to hang your clothes.

What’s even more exciting is, this time you’ll finally get to explore the inside of the inside of the driver’s compartment of the train carriage!

Granted, it isn’t what it actually looks like IRL but instead it is fitted with LCD panels that will depict real-life footage of the train travelling through a tunnel — still kinda cool.

Even the old train seats have found a new purpose. The old train chairs will be repurposed into outdoor benches for you to chill and enjoy your morning coffee as you admire nature’s beauty.

Food-wise, there’s several coffee shops nearby for you to snag some local delights. For a fancier meal, you can always head over to Timber+ One North.

Of course, we didn’t forget about the bus-enthusiasts. If you’re one that enjoys the buses more than trains, then you’ll wanna check out The Bus Collective, which features some 20 decommissioned buses that have also been transformed into luxury suites.

These bus hotels are located in Changi Village and are equipped with laminate flooring, marble countertops, and plush bedding. There’s even a rain shower and a bathtub for you to indulge in a nice soak.

What’s cool here is that as you “board” the bus, you’ll realise that the original fixtures like the steering wheel, driver’s seat, and windows have all been retained. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to drive the bus anywhere, but it makes for a good photo spot.

Nearby, there are also plenty of food options like Changi Village Hawker Centre as well as interesting activities such as bicycle tours. If all else fails, you can also hop on a ferry to visit the nearby Pulau Ubin.
