It’s that time of the year again, where the crescent and stars are plastered all over our HDB blocks, left to flutter majestically in the wind. National Day is just around the corner — we’ve got special food items, events, and most importantly, a long weekend.

In recent years, it has become an annual ritual to blow up some historical landmarks… in a red and white light-up to celebrate National Day, and 2021 is no different.

From 1 Aug 2021 to 31 Aug 2021, 7 buildings will be lit up between 7:30pm to 12am daily. So there’s plenty of time for you to check it out!

The 2021 National Day Light-Up display is a move by the National Heritage Board that can help brighten our lives during these tough pandemic times, and help “to inspire and encourage Singaporeans” — hopefully, this brings joy to some of us.

If you’re interested in watching buildings get a whole glow up, you can head down to the following locations:

National Museum of Singapore
Central Fire Station
The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd
National Design Centre
Stamford Arts Centre
Objectifs – Centre for Photography and Film
The Cathay

Unlike the usual suspects you’d find in other light projection events like Light to Night, the National Day Light-Up for 2021 will be illuminating less well-known spots such as Objectifs and National Design Centre.

But the light up line-up also includes some of the most iconic landmarks in Singapore including The Cathay, Central Fire Station, and the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, the oldest Catholic Church in Singapore

The most recognisable place on the National Day Light-Up 2021 itinerary is one of our oldest institutions, the National Museum of Singapore, which dates back as far as 1887.

Alongside 2021’s light-up, the National Museum of Singapore will also be offering online programmes to mark the celebratory occasion. You can find out more about all the performances, workshops, and tours that have been lined up here.

Plus you get to enjoy free admission on the 7 August 2021 to 9 August 2021 long weekend!

In light of the pandemic though, remember to follow social distancing rules and keep to two people. So why not just take a leisurely stroll with a date or close friend, through the landmarks and immerse yourself in the vivid displays of red and white?
