Transport yourself to Streets of Bangkok Eastside for authentic Thai street eats like tom yum mama, jumbo cockles & salt-baked fish

Despite having just returned from a short getaway in Bangkok, I’m already missing (and craving) all the incredible food I tried. Those spicy, sour, and herbaceous flavours — I absolutely couldn’t get enough!

Thankfully, there is no shortage of authentic Thai cuisine in Singapore, and one of the most underrated spots for street food can be found at the quirky container food park Timbre+ Eastside in Singapore EXPO.

If you want to be transported to the Land of Smiles without leaving the country, why not get your fix of Thai street eats at the aptly named Streets of Bangkok Eastside?

First and foremost, the stall specialises in all things charcoal-grilled, like the quintessential Moo Ping (from S$3), juicy Thai pork skewers that can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways, be it on their own, with rice, or dipped in a fiery chilli sauce.

You can also find an array of grilled seafood, like the salt-crusted Salted Baked Seabass (from S$30), a common sight in local markets around Thailand. In fact, why not go all out with the Salt Baked Seabass Seafood Set (from S$58) brimming with goodies like grilled seabass, tiger prawns, cuttlefish skewers, and gong gong?

Do note that orders for salt-baked fish must be made in advance before 5pm daily, given the lengthy prep time.

Another popular seafood option is the Jumbo Cockles (S$17) — fresh, meaty, and a little briny, served alongside a zesty Thai chilli dipping sauce.

But if you’re craving something hot, spicy, and soupy, the Tom Yum Mama (from S$18 for one person) will be right up your alley. Prawns, baby cuttlefish, mussels, fish, handmade pork balls, mushrooms, noodles, and eggs in a rich tom yum broth — what’s not to like?

I’ve yet to visit Jeh O Chula (the most famous tom yum mama eatery in Bangkok), or any of its lesser-known counterparts, but this will have to do till my next trip.

Alternatively, there’s always good ol’ Mookata, which comes with the option of mixing and matching ingredients for the ultimate BBQ platter.

Streets of Bangkok Eastside only offers mookata from Friday to Sunday at dinnertime (5pm–9pm).
