Constantly looking for things to do in Singapore? If you’ve already exhausted your list of art jamming and DIY workshop options, be it candle-making, rug tufting, or preserved moss art, here’s an activity that takes the term “hands-on” to a whole new level — woodworking.
Although I enjoy assembling cheese and charcuterie boards in my spare time, the thought of making my very own wooden board from scratch has never crossed my mind — until I came across Tombalek.
The fully-equipped woodworking studio in Mandai Link offers an extensive array of workshops, including the likes of furniture making (yes, like tables, chairs, and even clothes racks), knife making, musical instrument making, glass blowing, and of course, cheese board making.
That’s right — those new to the wonderful world of woodworking (like most of us) can start off with Tombalek’s Cheese & Chopping Board Making class, where you’ll get to make a simple yet functional wooden board.
Whether you decide to make a chopping board, serving board, or cheese board, there are tons of designs to choose from, with the option of freehand heat engraving (if you’re up for a challenge) for an end product that’s uniquely yours.
No experience is required as you’ll be guided through the entire three-hour process of cutting, sawing, sanding, and buffing.
The best part? You’ll get to bring home your new board at the end of the class and tell everyone “I made this myself!”
All in all, it’s a fun and unique workshop to take on with your date, group of besties, or even your entire team of colleagues (up to 28 pax).
Planning to host a cheese and wine party or celebrate your special someone with a personalised gift? Make a date, go forth, and create the cheese board of your dreams at Tombalek!
