East or West?
As someone who lives in the central area, I’m always playing Switzerland in this long-standing debate and to be fair, both places offer a fair amount of culinary delights, malls and nature parks.
However, today might just be the day that I finally decide if the East side is truly the best side.
Located in Bedok, Tsuki Ramen is a casual eatery selling hefty bowls of ramen that absolutely won’t break the bank. Headed by a chef with more than six years of culinary expertise, you can expect to dive into a world of flavour and savour the taste of Japan.
Prices start from just S$6.90 which is honestly pretty affordable and might remind you of another popular ramen chain.
Keep it simple with the Signature Tonkotsu Ramen (S$6.90) which comprises ingredients like smoky char siew, narutomaki, seaweed, and half ajitama egg.
It’s extremely value-for-money considering it comes with a thick and creamy broth made with pork bones that has been tediously boiled for hours on end. This rich broth is jam-packed with umami flavours — good enough to drink on its own.
If you’re looking for something less rich, the Shoyu Ramen (S$6.90) carries a lighter and clearer broth traditionally made with soy sauce.
Nevertheless, the soup base is versatile enough that it pairs well with any toppings like the inari beancurd. Besides that, you can always add on more ingredients like Abalone Slice (S$2), Bamboo Shoot (S$0.80), or Tamago Egg (S$1.50).
Otherwise, the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen (S$7.90) made with fermented soybean paste is a comforting meal, especially during a rainy day. It’s sweet, robust, savoury and tangy all combined into a delicious broth alongside al dente noodles.
Nothing beats the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (S$7.90) if you’re looking to take things up a notch. Personally, I’d always opt for this at every ramen stall as I feel that the fiery spice really helps to elevate the bold flavour profile of the tonkotsu broth.
Get some side dishes like the crisp Pork Gyoza (S$2.90) or bite-sized Chicken Karaage (S$3.90) that’s fried to golden brown perfection.
You have to get the Ebi Tempura (S$3.90) drizzled in mayo with a crunchy, sweet and juicy bite — a nice pairing with the umami ramen.
After hearing what Tsuki Ramen has to offer, it’s certainly making miso hungry. If you’re in the area and haven’t made any dinner plans yet, consider dropping by before it gets too crowded!
