This hidden restaurant serves Sichuan-style hotpot including mala pickled vegetable, sichuan pepper, chicken and beef broth & more

I don’t know about you, but the minute it starts raining and pouring, my mind immediately thinks about having a good ol’ hotpot for dinner.

There’s something so satisfying about slurping up the rich and flavourful broth — not to forget the meats, seafood, veggies that just add even more flavour.

Well, here’s another restaurant to save for your next hotpot fix.

Tucked away under a HDB in Toa Payoh, Xian Yu Gang is a no frills hotpot restaurant that specialises in Yunnan cuisine.

Anyone who is living around the central area sure is lucky since you can satisfy those hotpot cravings anytime you want.

Price-wise, a single pot goes for S$18 — which is very affordable (perfect for anyone on a budget)

But, if you’re someone who prefers variety, you can always go for the double pot (S$24) which essentially has two flavoured broths in one pot. Each serving is made-to-order with various Sichuan-inspired soup bases to choose from.

The Mala Pickled Vegetable Broth sports a numbing, tangy, and spicy broth made using Sichuan peppercorns, pickled veggies, and dried chillies.

If you’re someone who enjoys eating Chong Qing’s mala fish fillet in sour soup, you should definitely try this out for yourself.

But, for those who enjoy more of the spicy and numbing sensation in mala, go for the Szechuan Pepper & Pickled Vegetable Broth that is generously loaded with Sichuan peppercorns.

There are three levels of spiciness to choose from for each broth so spice lovers and daredevils can take it to the maximum level, perhaps?

Those with a lower spice tolerance, don’t fret, because they offer the non-spicy Rich Nourishing Broth

It contains pork, chicken bones, and assorted mushrooms that have been tediously simmered overnight to extract all its savoury goodness.

There’s also an extensive selection of fresh ingredients to choose from including Premium Beef (S$17), Iberico Pork Collar (S$11), Hokkaido Scallop (S$22), Cheese Tofu (S$7) and so much more.

Help yourself to the sauce station and DIY your own special concoction to pair alongside the ingredients — no hotpot experience is complete without it.

Another one of their must-try dishes is the Dairy Fan (S$7) which features thinly fried sliced cheese served with a side of sugar.

This sweet and milky dessert is the perfect way to end off your meal, especially after the spicy and numbing hotpot.

Besides that, you should try the Pao Lu Da — a popular cold dessert in Yunnan made from coconut milk, sago, purple rice, and toasted croutons to cut down the heaviness from the meal.

Are you in the mood for Sichuan-style hotpot that won’t break the bank?
