When MUJI is mentioned, what comes to mind is often minimalistic, wood-forward accents that are simply a sight for sore eyes. I distinctly remember the hype surrounding MUJI’s first ever cafe when it was first unveiled — many gathered ’round for a taste of simple, clean, yet delectable Japanese home cooking.
Now, MUJI has once again upped the stakes with a new series of whole cakes that you can pre-order three days in advance and self-collect in stores. The new cakes can be enjoyed whole or by the slice, are available at their Plaza Singapura and Raffles City MUJI Cafe outlets.
Here’s a quick look at the flavours to expect:
Matcha Pear Roll (S$26, 500gm whole cake/S$6.90 per slice)
Sweet Purple Potato and Chestnut Roll (S$33, 500g whole cake/S$8.90 per slice)
I know a friend or two who’d jump at the idea of sweet potato reimagined into a roll cake. The slight sweetness is balanced out by the Chestnut’s mild roasted touch. This cake also contains alcohol, so it might be one to watch for the boozy buffs.
Coffee Burnt Cheesecake (S$53, only 1.2kg whole cake available)
A perfect combination of bittersweet coffee cutting right through creamy, rich cheese.

Speaking of cheesecakes, here’s a classic that hardly goes wrong.
Spiced Pumpkin Cake with Cheese Frosting (S$49, 1kg whole cake/S$6.90 per slice)
Think of this one as a pumpkin spiced latte constructed into a layered cake, complete with cream cheese frosting and whole walnuts for that extra crunch.
