While we’ve seen plenty of authentic Japanese restaurants opening, there haven’t been many authentic Japanese options in our hawker scene. If you wanna have an authentic taste of Japan in a coffee shop, then check out Nennen Contemporary BBQ which is located at Sixth Avenue.

Known for their original outlet at Kallang Estate Food Centre which is dressed up to look like a Japanese Izakaya, that prides itself in bringing restaurant-quality food to hawker centres.

But with Kallang Estate Food Centre undergoing renovations currently, Nennen Contemporary BBQ will be temporarily moving operations over to this quaint coffee shop at Sixth Avenue.

Being a Japanese BBQ specialist, you can find many juicy cuts of meat available at Nennen Contemporary BBQ’s menu, ready to be smoked over the grill. For restaurant-quality meats at wallet-friendly prices, you can snag one of the premium cuts of BBQ Wagyu Karubi Plate, BBQ Iberico Collar or BBQ Kurobuta Collar all for just S$6.80.

Of course, if you’re looking for the most coffee-shop-friendly price, then you can also get their BBQ Prime Belly (S$2.80).

Alternatively, if you’re looking to go the other way and get the most luxurious items on the menu, you can find items such as BBQ Premium US Short Rib (S$8.80) and a whole succulent chunk of BBQ Wagyu Ribeye Steak MB4 (150grams) (S$18.80) at Nennen Contemporary BBQ.

If the indulgent porky or beefy varieties don’t tickle your fancy, there are also other options like the BBQ Smoked Duck (S$3.80), Chicken Burger Steak (S$3.80), Barramundi Collar (S$3.80), Salmon Fillet (S$4.80), and Tiger Prawn (S$4.80).

For Japanese food aficionados who prefer their food chilled and less cooked, you can find fresh Japanese raw catches at Nennen Contemporary BBQ too. Some good deals include the tantalisingly chunky Salmon Sashimi (S$7.80/8pcs) and plump Miyagi Oyster (S$9.80/3pcs).

A Set for 2 Persons (S$23.80) is also a good choice if you’re bringing a date or your bestie out for dinner. The set contains a good assortment of meaty goodies including Chicken Thigh, Teriyaki Mid Wing, Prime Pork Belly, and Prime Pork Collar.

They didn’t forget the veggie lovers too with a myriad of Assorted Mushroom and Assorted Kimchi to add some fibre to your heavy meals.
