With the rise of IG-worthy and specialty cafes, it seems that there is no shortage of aesthetic cafes in Johor Bahru these days. Who else thinks that Singapore seriously needs to step up its game?

Despite having opened its doors at the end of September 2023, Palates & Bagels has already made a name for themselves and in the hearts of customers.
At first glance, it may seem like your typical hole in the wall but do not be fooled by its exterior!

Upon stepping into Palates & Bagels, get ready to be greeted by a rustic and vintage interior adorning a retro look. Cloaked with concrete grey contrasted with hues of brown, the dark retro interior design makes for an aesthetic space worth taking pics for the ‘gram at.

The classy design continues up to the second floor where you will be greeted with a good mix of industrial loft design as the backdrop for a cosy spot to enjoy the vibes, company, and food.

Speaking of food, Palates & Bagels — as the name suggests — are known for their bagels as well as signature coffee.

The signature coffee on the menu includes a specialised variety such as Honey Oat Latte (S$5.20, RM18), White Cold Brew (S$4.60, RM16), and Osmanthus Latte (S$4.60, RM16).

Imagine reclining back into that cosy space with a grande cup of coffee, and just taking in those “main character” vibes? The only thing you’re missing would be bagels and yes, that is coincidentally what Palates & Bagels offer as a specialty!

The cafe’s signature bagel line-up consists of their Original Bagel (S$1.70, RM6), Flavoured Bagels (S$2, RM7) with toppings like Cranberry, Mixed Black Sesame, and Pumpkin Seeds. For the dairy lovers, there is Parmesan Cheese (S$2.30, RM8).

For those who crave bagels that are more filling, there are savoury bagels that are aptly named after specific cuisines, such as the Dvesh (S$7.50, RM26), which has curry mayo and fried chicken; and the Ah Seng (S$8.69, RM30), which has hae bi hiam mayo and prawn patties — to name a few.

Of course, it’s not just coffee and bagels. If you’re craving for other cafe fare, they also have non-coffee drinks like Matcha Latté (S$4.34, RM15), and other food like Truffle Mushroom Pasta (S$11.01, RM38) as well as Korean Style Fried Chicken (S$6.37, RM22).

The cafe is located around a 20 minutes drive from Woodlands Checkpoint, so you now have a new spot to try whenever you stop by Johor Bahru!
Which of their bagels will you be trying first?
