Health is wealth — or so they say. But sometimes the best foods are not exactly the healthiest. Well, Poke Theory’s newest and largest outlet in Telok Ayer is about to change that with their refreshed menu featuring samsui ginger chicken, umami tempeh, original shoyu salmon & more!

Located in Telok Ayer, this swanky CBD outlet has a 104-seater dining area as well as outlet-exclusive bowls with new protein choices, toppings and sauces — as someone who doesn’t eat a lot of salads, I am thoroughly intrigued. There’s also a new vegan-friendly option added to the menu as well.

If you’re a salad lover, you might be well versed in poke bowls. But, in case you don’t know what poke bowls are, they are essentially wholesome salad bowls loaded with sashimi and fresh veggies.

The Samsui Chica (S$11.90) is packed with cajun sweet potato, pickled onions, egg whites, cherry tomatoes, and corn salsa — one of the new topping options available on the menu. This bowl is perfect for gym rats who need to hit their protein intake as it comes with large chunks of flavourful Samsui Ginger chicken.

I personally loved this bowl because it reminded me of chicken rice but a healthier version. And if you love your samsui chicken doused in ginger sauce, Poke Theory also has a new ginger sauce which you can drizzle over your bowl for that extra spice kick. Oh, and before we forget, the Samsui Chica bowl is currently exclusive to this outlet only!

The Tempeh-tress (S$11.90) is another signature vegan-friendly and outlet-exclusive bowl that features pickled green chillies, smoked almonds, cherry tomatoes, pomegranate, corn salsa, and lime avocado.

I’m personally not a fan of tempeh because it is a little too earthy for my liking. However, I found that the sweet and tangy combination of ingredients in this bowl helped to mask most of the earthy notes of tempeh while elevating the soy bean flavour.  I wouldn’t call myself a tempeh convert but there is a chance I would order this again.

But of course, you don’t have to stick to the premade bowls — although it is much easier if you’re rushing for time. If you’re not in a hurry, you can build your own bowl from just S$9.90. All you gotta do is to choose your base – either rice, chilled soba, or quinoa — and then choose your protein, toppings and finish off with a nice garnish.

Toppings wise, you get to choose from over 18 different toppings (13 basic and five premium) including new additions like the corn salsa and pickled green chillis. For the premium selection, Poke has brought back the crowd favourite ikura

Pair your poke bowls with a couple of  refreshing drinks by Remedy Sodaly. These drinks are sugar-free,contain gut friendly prebiotics and are made with all natural ingredients. There are three flavours —Guava, Passionfruit, and Lemon Lime Bitters — to choose from.  If you love a good sour zing, you’ll certainly enjoy the lemon lime bitters. Otherwise the guava and passionfruit flavours are a little more on the fruity side.

Feel like giving these salad bowls a go?
