Singapore’s Sleep Challenge is the government giving us $30 to get some sleep

Singapore is on top of virtually every ranking you can think of, including claiming the crown of the most fatigued country in the world recently. Fret not, the Health Promotion Board is launching a new Sleep Challenge to get people in Singapore to catch 7 hours of much-needed sleep — there’d be rewards too!

If you’ve woken up feeling groggy and cranky every morning and cursing your boss for forcing you back to the office instead of WFH (hi boss!), then this might be what you need to yourself properly recharged every night.

Launched under season 6 of the National Steps Challenge, the Sleep Challenge will be open for registration from 6 Sep 2021 12pm to 31 Mar 2022 11:59pm. Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep daily and you will be rewarded with up to S$30 in eVouchers! You can get more info here.

This is when you catch your Z’s — go on at least a 7-hour getaway to dreamland within a 24 hour period and you’d earn yourself 25 health points. Extra Healthpoints can be earned during bonus weeks.

Once you’re registered, the actual challenge period runs from 1 Nov 2021 12pm to 1 Apr 2022 11:59pm. We probably didn’t need more reasons to laze around in our beds but now we can earn some bucks by hitting the snooze on our alarms while hiding from the sunlight like this:

The Sleep Challenge will be open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents with valid NRIC, non-Singaporeans with valid FIN, as long as you’re 17 years old or above based on your birth year.

That said, you need to have completed “Steps Rewards” in previous seasons to be able to join in on this slumber party. We can’t all just sleep and not exercise, I guess. *sighs*

If you’re part of the Singapore Health Promotion Board’s other program LumiHealth, you can only join the Sleep Challenge after you withdraw from the LumiHealth programme.

It’s easy to join in, you literally don’t have to do anything except sleep. The Season 6 HPB fitness tracker will do everything for you with its sleep tracking function, recording each day’s sleep on the Healthy 365 app.

The Sleep Challenge records each day’s sleep from 12pm to 11:59am on the very next day, and even allows you to take a look at your sleep history on the Healthy 365 app.

If you’re planning to join, you might as well also take part in Season 6 of the National Steps Challenge, which kicks off on 1 Oct 2021.

Not only do you get an extra 300 Healthpoints from clocking 10,000 steps daily for three days between 1 Oct to 10 Oct as an Early Bird Special and, regular exercise actually helps improve sleep too. Get more info here.
