Glacier: The moment we stepped into the game cafe, our jaws literally dropped- there were just so many games available. A massive dance floor that turned out to be a “Floor is Lava” game, a full-on archery site, and even cosy resting pods for a power nap after all that chaos. 

Although all the games looked exciting and tempting, we sprinted straight to the Floor is Lava-because honestly, what better way to kick off our arcade adventure than with an adrenaline-packed, heart pounding warm-up? 

And the best part: if there’s no one waiting in line for the game, you can go again (and again) and play as many rounds to your heart’s content. It’s a great way to burn those calories and your competitive spirit at the same time!

2pm
Nicole: Personally, I really enjoyed archery a lot, especially if it is in a central location. It’s hard to find indoor spots for archery unless you travel all the way to ulu corners in Singapore. What makes it even better is how you can control the distance between yourself and the target board, making it the perfect setup for archery newbies. 

However, if you miss the target (oops), your arrow will fall into the restricted area, where you’ll have to call a staff member for assistance. Time flew by as fast as the arrows with archery. I had a blast and I’m so glad to have discovered such an accessible spot for games, rest, and mini sports.

Selena: I thought the resting pods were awesome, comfy and super spacious. Besides just resting, you can also play Nintendo Switch games within the pods. The pods can comfortably fit up to four poeple, with two cosy sofas inside making it perfect for chilling, gaming or just vibing with friends.

This would be my favourite spot that I could happily spend my entire day in. For introverts tagging along with friends, this is a perfect spot I would recommend for recharging their energy while still soaking in all the fun around you.

Keith: Exclusive to the Chinatown outlet, you can also try out cultural workshop stations like Chinese Calligraphy and Han Embroidery. While the Chinese Calligraphy station is free, the Han Embroidery station comes with an additional fee. 

Heads up-the embroidery station is currently closed for now, but will be available for bookings starting 15 November 2025. Prices will be announced closer to the date (save the date!). 

When we first stepped into the cafe, we were all hyped for the arcade games and Floor is Lava, but honestly, the rest of the game options were just as fun and addictive. With so many exciting activities and game options available, we felt like we were kids again who couldn’t stop playing!

Located next to the Chinatown Heritage Centre, heritage and innovation are fused in Amacha, hence its fitting location. Their logo is even a samsui woman, an iconic Chinatown symbol.

Amacha is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles. You can tell from how their teas are crafted with premium herbs and natural ingredients, but the recipes are adjusted to your modern tastebuds.

In addition, your sugar level can’t exceed 50%.

Simply put, it’s the same indulgence, but no guilt! Should Amacha hook you in with their brews, no one can nag you for your new milk tea addiction.

Allow me to spill the tea on what’s on Amacha’s menu!

Of course, we have to start with the Herbal Milk Tea line. The recommended milk tea, Grandma’s Remedy (Medium -S$5.90, Large – S$6.90), is at the top of this list.  

As a tribute to his grandmother, the founder aptly named the drink and the store itself after her. 

This signature drink blends chrysanthemum, bamboo leaf, dandelion, monk fruit, milk blend, and herbal jelly. 

If you aren’t familiar with herbal tea but are a milk tea fanatic, this can be your first foot in as it tastes the closest to your standard milk tea.

Another drink worth mentioning is Warm Embrace (Medium – S$7.90, Large – S$8.90). 

Ladies, this one’s for you as it’s specially crafted with women’s health in mind. The drink hugs you with its blend of safflower, dried longan, red dates, angelica root, black tea, milk blend, and osmanthus jelly.

Moving over to the Herbal Tea section, there are two recommended items — Rosy Radiance (Medium – S$6.90, Large – S$7.90) and Qi Booster (Medium – S$7.90, Large – S$8.90). 

Self-care season is always the move, so get started on it with Rosy Radiance. It’s Amacha’s reminder to slow down and take care of yourself with its radiant blend of rose, goji berries, red dates, roselle, rose black tea, and peach gum jelly.

I opted for the 50% sugar level and surprisingly, I can proudly use the ultimate Asian compliment — it’s not too sweet. Refreshingly light, it’s perfect for Singapore’s hot weather.

As for the Qi Booster, it’s self-explanatory. Why boost your blood sugar when you can boost your qi instead? Recharge yourself with this mix of ginseng, astragalus, codonopsis, salt, jasmine green tea, and bird’s nest jelly.

Amacha also offers Herbal Hand-Punch Lemon Tea, a lineup of lemon teas with various flavours.

The recommended item is the Classic Lemon Tea (Medium – S$4.50, Large – S$5.50), consisting of lemon, lemongrass, and green tea.

Or switch things up with the Ginseng Lemon Tea (Medium – S$8.50, Large – S$9.50), which includes lemon, energy booster, oolong tea, and bird’s nest jelly.

There’s something to pair your drinks with too. Get yourself the in-house Traditional Kueh, which comes in Original (S$2.90) and Prune (S$3.30).

Maggie’s might just be the only restaurant in Singapore that prides itself on serving inauthentic Chinese dishes — traditional Chinese flavours with Western influence.

The funniest part? It’s located in Chinatown.

The interior is very, very red. It’s a nostalgic blend of “grandma chic” and ‘70s glamour. You can expect fancy chandeliers and fine China dishware, and there’s even a huge dragon lantern lurking around the booths.

P.S. This might be the only Chinese restaurant in Singapore that doesn’t offer chopsticks.

The Mouth-watering Cod Milt (S$24) is a standout. It’s also known as shirako, a seasonal delicacy meaning ‘white child’ in Japanese. 

If you’re wondering what this dish is (I sure did), it’s actually the tube-like sperm sacs of male cod and known to be silky and creamy.

East meets West in the Golden Prawn Croque-Madame (S$25), a fusion of the French sandwich and the traditional Cantonese shrimp toast. Its crispy homemade focaccia with prawn mojo is already a favourite among early patrons. And surprise — there’s green peppercorn to keep you on your toes.

Maggie’s also offers the Spicy Clams “Rockefeller” (S$23), a heaping pile of fresh and juicy clams complemented with spicy panko and pickled enoki.

If you’re planning a large group gathering, Maggie’s got your back with their large sharing dishes.

Choose the Roasted Pomfret (S$36 for half, S$58 for whole), a spicy fish dish with an abundance of ginger. 

If you’re itching for some carbs, Maggie’s Southern Dirty Rice (S$35) is a Louisana-inspired rice dish with monkfish liver.

After all the bold flavours, try Maggie’s 8 Treasures (S$16), a glutinous rice treat topped with a scoop of date gelato atop a foamy cloud of red bean. 

Just like their food menu, classic cocktails are reimagined with the addition of Asian ingredients. 

Those eager for good fortune can pick Lucky No. 8 (S$21), a tangy tangerine version of gin and soda. Floral lovers can try the Golden Hour (S$21) which features goji berries and osmanthus. 

If you’re looking for a little spice instead, hit up the 麻 (ma)rgarita (S$23) for a glass of tequila infused with Sze Chuan pepper. 

They’re now open for reservations during their soft opening but will be officially opening their doors to the public very soon in late March 2025.

If you love dark chocolate, their signature Black Forest Doughnut (S$7) is a must-try. 

The tartness of the cherries, elevated with a punch of kirsch, a cherry-based liqueur, complements the bittersweet notes of the dark chocolate.  

The Apple Strudel Doughnut (S$6) is another treat you won’t want to miss. Imagine sweet, crunchy apples and some cinnamon goodness, all tucked away in a doughnut.

And, let’s not forget Pretzels (S$9) for the savoury-toothed. Fun fact, pretzels aren’t just tasty snacks to our German friends, but also symbols of good luck and prosperity!

If you love geeking about coffee beans, you’ll be delighted to try their house-blend coffee beans from Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. With their variety of single-origin coffee, there’s bound to be something to suit the preferences of every coffee enthusiast.

Imagine my excitement when I chanced across Coije Cafe 财爷冰室 on RED. Their vibrant store is located in Chinatown and serves an eclectic mix of eastern and western dishes, and at pretty affordable prices too!

I must say, the store did an amazing job at nailing the decor. Pasted across all the walls in the store are vintage-designed posters, along with traditional Chinese signages. It feels almost as if you’ve been transported to Hong Kong.

On the menu are classic Hong Kong favourites like Double Cheese Baked Mixed Vegetables (S$11.80), Coconut Curry Beef Rice (S$13.80), along with a selection of sizzling hotplates and more.

If there’s one thing you must know about Hong Kong cha chaan teng, it’s that they made a damn good cheese baked rice. So of course, you have to order the Tomato Baked Pork Chop Rice (S$12.80). Its got the tanginess of the tomato sauce with the creamy and savouriness of the baked cheese — absolutely divine.

For something more unique, you can go for the Satay Beef Noodle (S$9) which comprises maggie noodles and tender beef slices drenched in a sweet and mildly spicy peanut sauce. Honestly, it’s quite a unique combination of flavours.

One of my must-haves at any cha chaan teng is the Butter Bolo Bun (S$4.80). The sweet crust against the fluffy bun and the thick slab of butter is just oh so delicious. Trust me, one is never enough. I always order two sets all by myself whenever I see it on the menu, so you bet I’ll be doing it at Coije Cafe too.

Another must-try here is the Dripping Cream Toast (S$7.80). I don’t typically have a sweet-tooth but damn this toast got me drooling. Just look at the amount of milo powder and that cream! Plus, it comes with a little mahjong tile on the side — its just too cute to say no.

Of course, no trip to Coije Cafe (or any cha chaan teng) without getting a cup of milk tea. In true Hong Kong fashion, the Hot Milk Tea (S$4.50) comes served in Coije Cafe’s version of the carnation milk tin. But, if I were you, I’d totally get the iced version which features an adorable ice teddy bear floating in the drink — super adorable.

I don’t know about you but I’m already hungry just thinking about all these dishes. Looks like it’s time for some Hong Kong cha chaan teng fare, especially since everyone on my social media seems to be holidaying in the land of dim sum and roast meats right now.

Just a five-minute walk from Chinatown MRT is Digicam Depository which boasts over 400 cameras for you to browse through. 

They’re an online business that has just opened a temporary pop-up store just beside Chinatown Complex until the end of March. Prices start from S$50 for a camera, inclusive of memory cards and a charger .

What’s more, every camera is carefully curated to ensure the best quality photos and restocked daily. 

Choose from chunky classics to sleek minis from the 90s to early 2000s. 

You can also expect to find reputable brands such as Casio, Panasonic and even Fujifilm. 

Here’s what you may find if you do make your way down. 

The Sony Cybershot DSC-W800 (S$220) gives off a soft and dreamy look (perfect for those who love exploring nature parks and going to the beach). 

It’s definitely an unmatched aesthetic that you can’t get with modern day cameras nowadays. 

For those who love the vibes that warm filters give off, you might find certain cameras like the Olympus VG-160. 

It adds depth and character to your photos (and besides, it’ll save you some editing time).

You might find cameras like Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX2 (S$180) which give off a raw and unfiltered look. 

And to be honest, some of the photos do come out looking quite similar to the ones you usually take on the smartphone. 

The best part is, it comes in different shapes and colours to choose from — which make for great statement pieces. 

Go for pink if you’re into the ‘coquette’ look.  

If not, go for the blue tones for a clean and cool look. It’s a safe choice if you’re looking for vintage digital cameras to match with your outfit.

As the cameras sell out pretty fast, do head down earlier if you want first dibs and a wider selection to choose from. 

Regardless of whether you have a passion for collecting cameras, love taking photos, or are simply into the Y2K aesthetic, there are more than enough cameras to go around.

But guess what? Jinbobo Bingfen 金钵钵冰粉 that opened this October 2023 is here to the rescue! They’re serving up mainland China-style ice jelly bowls with creative flavours like Americano, Sea Coconut and more!

Jinbobo Bingfen is tucked away in Mong Kok Food Court of People’s Park Complex, manned by two muscled staff that has garnered much attention on social media. 

But what’s more enticing is the slurpy, large chunks of konjac ice jelly that the store specialises in. It is a lot thicker than traditional aiyu jelly, but still silky and smooth.

There are five available flavours: the Signature Brown Sugar Ice Jelly (S$6.90), Osmanthus Ferment Rice Ice Jelly (S$5.90), Americano Ice Jelly with Ferment Rice (S$5.90), Sea Coconut Ice Jelly (S$5.90) and Green Grape Ice Jelly (S$5.90).

The highlight of the menu is definitely the Signature Brown Sugar Ice Jelly, which comes with fresh fruits, dried raisins and hawthorn atop a big tub of ice jelly drenched in handmade brown sugar that will satisfy your sweet tooth.

The two alcoholic flavours, Osmanthus and Americano, are also a close second. The Osmanthus ice jelly features osmanthus flowers from Suzhou, sweet wine from Shanghai and is topped with tiny glutinous rice balls that adds to the chewy texture of the konjac ice jellies.

If you’re not a fan of alcohol, you can check out their Sea Coconut or Green Grape Ice Jelly buckets instead. The blue of the Sea Coconut bucket is achieved through the use of butterfly pea flower, with pretty daisies and a generous drizzle of coconut milk that add to its ethereal vibe.

You can also find water chestnut popping pearls that’ll explode with every bite in the refreshing Green Grape ice jelly.

For ice jelly enthusiasts, it’s best to visit early to ensure you get your preferred flavour, as most options tend to sell out by evening.

Previously known as the Five Insights Hall (五观食堂), this vegetarian food court beneath the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple underwent renovations to become Lian Xin (莲芯膳坊) in 2022.

This food court, which is air-conditioned (thankfully!) has an unnoticeable entrance located at the left of the temple, with only a tiny sign at the top pointing to some nondescript stairs leading down to it. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted with four stalls selling mixed rice, western food, noodles, drinks and desserts. 

Before you start queueing, grab some free fruits at the condiments station. The type of fruits changes daily and there are limited quantities available. The early bird gets the worm, so chances are that you’ll find the baskets empty by the afternoon. 

One of the must-try crowd favourites is the Laksa from the noodle stall, priced at only S$4, but it is only available on Wednesdays and Sundays. Do note that most of the stalls operate with weekly menus featuring items that change daily. 

A plate of rice or bee hoon with two vegetables at the mixed rice stall only costs S$3, and you can add more vegetables to your liking with a dollar. Just imagine getting a plate of bee hoon with four ingredients at just S$5 — where else in Singapore can you get such great food at this price?

It’s also a steal at S$5 for the Western food stall’s set meal, which includes an appetiser (usually salad), a soup and a main. The stall has two weekly menus, A and B, which alternate each week. You’ll have to plan carefully if you want to get to try their tomato truffle pasta on Week B’s Thursday, gratin rice on Week A’s Wednesday, or mushroom penne on Saturday!

You can add as much parmesan cheese or chilli flakes as you like to your dish at the condiments station.

Drinks and desserts are only a dollar, and you’re definitely spoilt for choice. Think oreo cake, pistachio cheesecake, green tea choco bun, bubur cha cha, mushroom pie, and so much more!

You won’t be finding any Pumpkin Spice Lattes here, but you can get the classics like kopi, teh, and even soft drinks like Sparkling Apple, Coca Cola and Jasmine Green Tea. Top up another dollar for the premium teas of High Fragrance Tie Guanyin and Citrus Bliss if you’re feeling fancier.

Of course, you can skip all that and go for the free water that is also available at the condiments station. 

It is amazing that this small food court with only four stalls can achieve so much variety with the daily rotating menus.
