Habibi Kebs, a five-minute walk from Kembangan MRT, is serving up German-style Doner Kebabs, Donner Teller, and Durum.

If you’re not familiar with the dishes, the main difference is the type of bread. The Doner Kebabs uses an open pita bread while the Durum incorporates a thin wheat tortilla instead.

Meat options include Chicken, Beef, and Mixed (for those who want the best of both worlds). You can also customise your kebab with jalapenos, lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, and red cabbage. 

Tie it all together with a sauce of your choice: Garlic, Spicy, or Herb. For an extra kick, top up an additional S$1 for more sauce.

For cheese lovers, add on shredded mixed cheese for just S$2!

If you’ve ever seen videos of Berlin’s iconic kebab joints with their thick, sauce-drenched, meat-stuffed pitas, the Doner Kebab is exactly that.

Priced at S$9 for Chicken, S$10 for Beef, and S$11 for Mixed, each Doner Kebab comes stuffed to the brim with juicy, slow-roasted meat. After ordering, the meat is shaved fresh off the rotisserie, giving you a mix of crispy bits and tender, flavour-packed slices.

Their thick, fluffy pita is toasted on the outside, giving it a light crisp while staying soft and warm on the inside. It’s sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart yet still pillowy and easy to bite into.

Next, imagine loaded fries, but with all the ingredients you’d find in a kebab. There you go, you’ve got the Donner Teller.

You can choose from Chicken (S$10), Beef (S$11), and Mixed (S$12). The fries are fried to golden-brown, which serves as a good base to hold the generous toppings.

Durum is the kebab we’re normally more familiar with.

Whether you go for the Chicken (S$8), Beef (S$9), or Mixed (S$10), the Durum offers the classic kebab experience in a simple, portable form.

Feeling extra hungry? 

Add a side of fries for just S$5, and go all out (because sometimes, a little extra is exactly what you need).

The paste itself is wonderfully rich and silky, with the right balance of sweetness.  The roasted pistachio bits add a toasty, nutty aroma, transforming the dessert into pure pistachio heaven.

For something more classic, the Signature YuenYeung Grand Slam Milk (S$8.80) is a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. 

This bowl is a medley of different textures with familiar toppings like grass jelly, peach gum, red bean, and more. The subtle hint of osmanthus and milk makes it all the better.

And, of course, they have desserts catered for durian fans. 

First, they have the Ultra Rich Durian Double Layer Milk Pudding (S$6.70). 

It’s a generous scoop of durian paste atop a smooth milk pudding throne. The steamed milk pudding is mildly sweet, letting the king of fruits take centre stage. 

If you’re after more durian goodness, you can also try their YuenYeung Durian Coconut Snow (S$9.50) and Ultra Rich Durian Coconut Mousse (S$7.60). 

Matcha lovers, this one’s for you. 

In a bowl of Matcha Mochi Peaks (S$6.40), you can expect a generous scoop of matcha ice cream, accompanied by milk and QQ pearls (it’s like a super thick matcha latte).

The matcha ice cream delivers a bold, earthy bitterness that pairs harmoniously with the light sweetness of the chilled milk. As for the pearls, they are addictively chewy, making this dish extra appealing to the younger crowd.

Sotpot, nestled in Suntec City, dishes out nutritious Korean-inspired meals. It’s located alongside its sister businesses Onggii, Koggii, and SotBox.

At Sotpot, healthy eating doesn’t compromise flavour. With their latest menu additions, including Marinated Crab and Sotssam, I’ve never been more willing to eat clean.

After watching one too many mukbang videos, I was super excited to try their Marinated Crab (S$15.90) and have a go at slurping up some juicy crab meat. 

Safe to say that I was not disappointed — the meat was soft and succulent, richly marinated in traditional Korean gochujang and fermented seasonings. It was sweet and just the slightest bit spicy, so it was easy to enjoy. 

Oh, and for those who are afraid to get their hands dirty, the dish also came with disposable gloves!

There were many options for their Sotssam, with prices starting from S$16.90. The dish is inspired by Vietnamese spring rolls, with meats and fresh vegetables wrapped in rice paper. 

At Sotpot, you get hands-on experience in wrapping your own Sotssam. First, start by dipping the rice paper into the water (for only five seconds). Next, add your favourite vegetables and meat. Then, fold in the sides, dip it in your choice of sauce, and enjoy!

I have to say, this was a lot easier than wrapping popiah. 

I tried their Beef Short Plate Sotssam set (S$33.80), which came with a generous portion of fresh vegetables and meat prepared right in front of me.

To top it all off, the dish came with a sweet and sour sauce, as well as a roasted sesame sauce to dip the wrap in. The former kept the taste light, but if you prefer something thicker, you should go for the latter.

Other meat options for their Sotssam include Pork Belly (S$32.80) and Duroc Collar (S$34.80) in case you’re feeling a little boujee.

If you love rice bowls, the Salmon Avocado Sotbap (S$19.90) is a must-try.

I was impressed with the baked salmon that remained tender and juicy. It was accompanied with buttery avocado bits and fermented Korean-style soy sauce that made this dish extra flavourful.

These noodles are thinner than your usual mazesoba, but don’t let that fool you — they’re chewy and full of flavour. With such quality, any bowl of soba is promised to be good. 

The Original Abura Soba (S$13.30) is a good testament to their soba quality.

Coated in a simple yet flavourful sauce, they absorb just the right amount to bring out that umami flavour. It’s a straightforward, no-frills dish that really lets the quality of the noodles shine. But of course, the real fun begins when you start adding your choice of toppings.

As someone who willingly adds cheese to everything, the Cheese Abura Soba was calling my name. 

While the cheese flavour was subtle, it made the perfect base for the Mentaiko (S$2) added. You can also further customise your bowl with toppings like egg yolk (S$0.80), fried shallots (S$0.80), fried garlic (S$0.80), cha shu (S$2), seaweed (S$1), and more.

For an extra S$4.20, you can make it a set with sides like Kurozu Karaage or House Salad.

If you love potato salad, the House Salad Set is a must-try. It’s a rich and creamy potato salad made even better with a topping of minced pork. Super addictive.

The Kurozu Karaage did not disappoint either. 

These deep-fried chicken balls were cooked to perfection, staying tender and juicy beneath their crispy coating (definitely not something you would get from frozen food).

With existing outlets in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, this cafe lets you sip and eat while hanging out with the world’s friendliest rodents.

The space is roomy and well-designed, giving the capybaras plenty of freedom to roam around at their own pace. There’s even a wading pool where they can cool off from the Bangkok heat (because even capybaras need a little spa time).

But, capybaras aren’t the only stars of the show. Capybara Coffee is home to many other furry (or feathery) animals like ducks, meerkats, monkeys, guinea pigs, and more!

For just 400 baht (S$15.94), adults can enjoy 30 minutes of playful interaction with the animals, while children can join in for only 200 baht (S$7.97). Oh, do make sure to make a reservation before heading down.

Upon entry, you are also required to purchase a drink from their cafe. 

Caffeinated options include Iced Coffee (120 baht / S$4.78), Macchiato Latte (100 baht / S$3.99), Americano (100 baht / S$3.99) and more. Otherwise, non-caffeinated drinks like Chococino (100 baht / S$3.99), Smoothie Shakes (90 baht / S$3.59), and Fruit Juices (100 baht / S$3.99) are available for purchase too.

Nibble away on the cafe’s vegetarian menu, with light bites like French Fries (140 baht / S$5.59) or Vegetable Spring Rolls (100 baht / S$3.99).

Here, you can indulge in Chinese-style desserts at Lantine Cafe, located just five minutes from Farrer Park MRT.

Their thoughtfully curated menu offers a modern twist to traditional Guangzhou delicacies, with many options for desserts and drinks. 

Their Strawberry Souffle (S$16) is an absolute crowd-favourite, with its fluffy appearance and melt-in-your-mouth batter. 

Accompanied by a generous portion of strawberries, whipped cream, strawberry syrup, and chestnut pearls, this was so worth it. (I mean, we all know how much even a plain Souffle pancake can cost in Singapore right…). 

And, for those who don’t fancy strawberries, other flavours include Matcha Red Bean (S$14), Mango (S$15), and Oreo (S$14), to name a few. 

The Goji Berry and Red Date Roasted Milk Tea (S$13.90) is another must-have, especially on a rainy day. Warm drinks aren’t usually my cup of tea but this was the exception. The taste of the goji berries and red dates was just the right amount to not overpower the roasted milk tea. 

Even better, the tea is served in a clay teapot to accentuate the aroma over a candle, to ensure it stays hot (in case you spend too much time yapping).

If you like a mix of textures, the Bayberry Taro Ball Konjac (S$6) won’t disappoint. Along with big taro balls to chew on and jelly to slurp, this sweet treat also comes with popping chestnut pearls. They’re not just ordinary popping pearls—the added crunch from the chestnut makes them even more fun to chew on!

Need to get your coffee fix? They have some unique coffee options like Taro Latte (S$8), Pomegranate Americano (S$6), Green Grape Americano (S$6.50) and more. 

The Iced Osmanthus Latte (S$7) was a real standout on the menu, even just in looks alone. Smooth, creamy, and with just a hint of floral sweetness, it’s a safe bet for anyone who looking for a classic latte with a little extra charm.

Their Taro Mochi (S$6.90) is a modernised take on the traditional Teochew dessert. Instead of adding coconut milk to the taro paste, they’ve replaced it with a special milk mochi (admin thoroughly enjoyed this). I can see this dessert being a huge hit with the older folks because of its mellow taste profile (unfortunately admin likes her desserts sweet).
