Yes, you read that right!

Johor Bahru’s newest cafe As Clouds Cafe comes with a unique furry twist, and that is their in-house alpaca residents. 

Because of how unique As Clouds Cafe is, everybody wants to hoove a good time and catch a glimpse of the cute alpacas, including me! Given its limited seating inside the cafe, you can expect to wait a little bit before getting your chance at grabbing a selfie with them.

There are a total of two alpacas in the cafe, with each of them alternating “shifts” and given free reign within the cafe making friends with you as you dine. You can get a free carrot from the staff to feed the alpacas and pet them! 

(Anybody else finds it so cute that the alpacas have a mullet haircut?)

I mean look at their floofy fur! Some might be concerned about the cafe having an “animal smell” since the alpacas can roam freely, but there really isn’t any at all. 

My favourite part? There is no minimum spending required in order to interact with the alpacas, only as long as you’re dining in and ordering something from the cafe menu. 

While we’re on it, let’s talk about the delicacies of the menu, because the food looks decently yummy. 

The cafe offers Western-fusion cuisine with burgers, mains, salad, and sides. If you’re craving rice bowls and pasta, there are also options for that.

The Japanese Katsu Curry Salmon Omurice (SGD6.80, RM23.90) looks absolutely decadent, and they even have desserts like the Big Cat Pudding at only SGD4.20 (RM15)!

Do take note that the cafe does not accept reservations, so walk-ins are your only bet. 

As Clouds Cafe is relatively new at the time of writing, but with everyone gathering to pet the soft cloud-like fur of the alpacas, it is best to get a headstart on the queues.

Despite its small size, the magic of this city is that it never ceases to amaze with each hidden spot you uncover.

From historical landmarks to quirky Easter Eggs displaced in time, we have gathered five unexpected historical hidden spots in Singapore that you have most likely not heard of. 

1. Condom lorry in Chestnut Nature Park 

Did you know that Singapore has its very own “rubber plantation”? Well, something like that. 

Snuggled in the northwestern corner of Singapore, Chestnut Nature Park is known to be a cosy nature reserve hidden from the main traffic. Known for its trekking trails which have not been taken over by the concrete ones, Chestnut Nature Park is Singapore’s largest nature park and a fan favourite for hikers. 

A deeper trek into the nature park reveals an obscure track that leads to an abandoned lorry in the middle of the woods. While abandoned vehicles in the woods are not unheard of, it is not commonly seen. Spewn around the lorry is a bunch of condoms — both used and unused — earning its notorious name of “condom lorry”. 

Theory goes that this part of the jungle could have been a brothel (oooh, spicy love spot anyone?) or used for vice-related activities, but who really knows? Either way, this is an unexpected hidden spot and serves for an interesting photo!   

2. Former Tuas TV World Site

Ever wondered where old Singapore period dramas were filmed? Some of you might have heard of the former Tuas TV World that was a prime film set specially built for the purpose of period dramas! 

What used to be a hundred buildings spanning across three long streets, now only stands fifteen buildings as the decline for Singapore period dramas exponentially grew in the recent decades. However, this does not stop history buffs from making the trip to Tuas to catch a glimpse of Tuas TV World.

Do take note though, that if you’re planning to make a trip down here, the best view you can get of the place is only through the closed main gates. But even from the entrance, you’re able to see the unique 50s inspired architectural style of the shophouse buildings. 

A tip from me: since it is slated for demolition in the second quarter of 2024, it is best to take a trip down and get a glimpse of them before they are fully gone!

3. Old Jurong Railway

You might remember the KTM railway tracks that were removed during its decommission period in 2021, but did you know that there is another railway line whose tracks are still intact?

The Old Railway Line is a track that runs from Bukit Timah to Jurong and even though it is not in operation anymore, it is commonly used as a trekking and hiking trail for the adventurous. The track itself has many noteworthy spots to witness but my favourite has got to be the hidden tunnel along this railway. 

Okay granted, it isn’t really a hidden spot per se but the tunnel is indeed in a quiet place obscure enough and shielded from sight of the main road. Just exploring the area already lets you feel like you’re the main character in a role-playing game!

Do take note that the trek to this one is recommended for seasoned hikers, but even if you’re just starting out, safety is always first. 

4. Kay Siang Bunkers in Queenstown 

Modern amenities fit for the city have overtaken almost all of the region of Queenstown, but there are still hidden remnants of the past and you just need to know where to look. 

Kay Siang Bunkers is one such underrated historical landmark and was built during WW2, later abandoned due to the resolution of the war. It was used as storage to keep munitions for the British Military who were still there at the time. 

If you’re interested in swinging by, then grab your comfy hiking shoes because you might have to trek a bit for this one! Even the entrance to the bunkers are relatively hidden, with only a small clearing between the trees and a muddy trail with trampled grass to suggest its frequent use. 

In total, there are three bunkers that you can explore and they are hard to miss as they are literally concrete blocks against a backdrop of green trees. Because of its obscurity, this is probably one of my favourite historical hidden spots and it could be yours too!

5. Seah Im Bunker 

On the topic of bunkers, besides the Kay Siang Bunkers in Queenstown, there is also the Seah Im Bunker in Keppel Hill that remains as one of the unexpected historical hidden spots in Singapore. 

I call it “unexpected” because the secret entrance to reach this bunker lies behind a fence that not many people will think to go to at first glance. After a short hike of 50m, you will reach the small WW2 bunker that has once been used to store equipment and ammunition.  

The Seah Im Bunker is rather small in size, so once you’re done with exploring this side of the woods, you can follow the trail further down to reach the gorgeous Keppel Hill Reservoir that is hidden from society. 

Because of its carefully concealed location, the reservoir becomes a beautiful lake with fallen leaves all over the waterface, gorgeously shaded with large trees and the surrounding fauna. Truly a hidden spot that looks like it came straight out of a fairytale!

Havoc Food Festival, one of Malaysia’s biggest street food bazaars, is finally making its way back to JB at Angsana Mall just 20 minutes away from the checkpoint. 

This four day festival from 1 to 4 February 2024 is huge and will have a ton of activities and food. Just looking at the lineup, I’m already on the edge of my seat!

With more than 150 food vendors in Havoc Food Festival around Malaysia specialising in both traditional and fusion food, rest assured there will be a little something for everyone. 

Those familiar with Serabites will be happy to know that you’ll be able to find their mini cheesecake tarts at the festival!

But of course, a meal should come before dessert and what better way to enjoy that than with King Roti John and their generous portions of meat and bread. 

Fans of fries, this is right up your alley! Keytatoes and their viral long fries drizzled with various toppings is also one of the featured vendors, so make sure not to miss this one. 

And of course, what is a food festival without some classic takoyaki? Except it isn’t classic at all, because Takoyaki Senawang is present with their special twist on takoyaki. 

Since this is a mega food festival, you can expect to look forward to other treats such as the viral tanghulu, Korean fried chicken, Samyang noodles, mala skewers, bite-sized pizzas, cheese wheel pasta, as well as fresh oysters, to name a few.

Besides delicious food and beverages, Havoc Food Festival also has family bonding sessions such as magic shows, and traditional game stations like congkak. On top of that, there are even unique activities such as parrot shows and even a petting zoo (with snakes and rabbits!). 

Rest assured the little ones will be occupied with plenty to do because the list is truly endless!

Here is a list of unique spots in the Philippines that are worth visiting at least once that aren’t sandy beaches and blue seas!

1. Sabtang Island, Batanes 

The hills are alive with the Sound of Music at Sabtang Island in Batanes! 

Known as the New Zealand of the Philippines, Sabtang Island’s landscape is beautifully cascaded by green valleys and boundless hills. Honestly, if you were to show me pictures of New Zealand and Sabtang Island side by side, chances are I wouldn’t be able to tell between the two.

It is also famous for its rustic lighthouse and old stone houses that make you feel like you are not in Southeast Asia at all. 

While you’re here, don’t forget to stop by the Sleeping Beauty Hills as well. At certain angles, you get to see a “lady’s” face in deep slumber, and that makes for a unique photography keepsake.

2. Tagaytay, Cavite

Just a little south from Manila, Tagaytay is a region in Cavite with a relatively cool climate and is a serene retreat away from the metropolitan cities! 

Only real ones will remember that Disney short animation Lava, and that is what the Taal Volcano reminds me of! Don’t worry about it being the second most active volcano in the Philippines, the sight is super worth it to behold.  

While you’re at it, savour the panoramic expanse of the Taal Lake surrounding the smaller volcanic islands. 

And since it is a mountainous region, what better way to be on top of the world than to enjoy yourself at an amusement park? The Sky Ranch has scenic views overlooking the city below and if you want to go higher, the iconic ferris wheel at the amusement park will bring you up further heights!

3. Baguio

Oh, where can I begin with Baguio? Ever since I saw the pictures of the abundant forests and mountains surrounding this city, I fell head-over-heels in love. 

Baguio is essentially the Cameron Highlands of the Philippines, with average temperatures that  range from 12 to 22 degree Celsius all year round because of how high it is above sea level. This climate makes it perfect for strawberries and you can bet there are a lot of strawberry farms for you to pick from. 

Personally, I’ve had my eyes set on the Mines View Park because of its iconic Observation Deck that overlooks the gorgeous outskirts of the region. Oh, and if you’re a fan of walking trails and being away from the crowds, Camp John Hay Forest Bathing Trail is for you.

Baguio is definitely a place for nature buffs to further explore so remember to pack your best hiking boots if you’re stopping by.

4. Banaue

If you’re a Marvel fan, you might recognise this place! 

The Banaue rice terraces are featured in the ending scene of Avengers: Infinity War. So if you wanna catch a glimpse of the place where Thanos exiled himself, then head no further than Banaue – one of the most unique spots in the Philippines.

Its wide expanse and rippled landscape is a gorgeous result of the hard work of generations of the ethnic Ifugao people. You can already get an idea of it through pictures so imagine being there in person and facing its grandeur?

Now I can totally get why Thanos chose to reside in the rice terrace while on self-exile. 

5. Sagada

Sagada is a peaceful mountainous region further up north from Manila, and famous for its sunny yet chilly weather as well as its backdrop of lush natural landscapes. 

If you’re absolutely seeking an escape from the city, I would say that Sagada is definitely up there in choices for surrounding yourself with nature. There is plenty to see and do here, from trekking trails, hiking up mountains, as well as exploring limestone caves! 

But perhaps one of the most unique spots in the Philippines not to miss is the Hanging Coffins of Sagada. Deeply rooted in cultural history, the ethnic people of Sagada follow unique burial rituals and these coffins being suspended in mid air against rock is truly a sight to witness. 

6. Cebu

Yes, the Philippines is known for her beaches but that does not mean that its waterfalls are getting overshadowed too!

Kawasan Falls in Cebu is known as the most picturesque waterfall in the entire country, with its turquoise blue waters and with lush greenery framing the falls itself. It is just absolutely majestic to view them. 

The trek to this waterfall is not too perilous and so it is super convenient to reach this place. What’s more, this waterfall is incredibly IG-worthy and definitely a special location to visit with your significant other, and friends too! 

The modern city amenities might bring us great conveniences as our lives begin to evolve into a more fast-paced one, but it is especially the busiest people that need a break. 

And who knows, you might be able to find reprieve and solace in these six iconic places in the Philippines!

What’s more, Parking Lot CQB is open until 1am so if you’re looking for a late-night activity, this might just be the place for you. 

Get a whole new level of immersion as you holster your guns and since Parking Lot CQB uses Gel Blaster toy guns, you don’t need to scour the “map” for a Level Three Military Vest to gear up since these guns are relatively safe and low-impact. 

Look at the gun selections, they even have SCAR-L and M416 just like that in the game!

All you really need to get started is a face shield and your weapons, which Parking Lot CQB will be able to provide. Oh, and for better comfort do wear long pants and covered shoes! 

There will be three game modes available: Battle Mode, Bomb Mode, and Chicken Dinner Mode.

Depending on how long you want to play, Parking Lot CQB has two types of game sessions to choose from. 

Ranking Mode consists of only one game at S$5.10 (RM18). But if you want to get on that real grind, there is also the Versus Mode at S$13.60 (RM48) for three games for one hour! 

You can face the harsh terrains of the battleground with a minimum of two people and a maximum of 20 people. 

But if you find yourself playing solo (sometimes lobbies are just empty, right gamers?), the staff will be the ones playing against you. Hey, at least you won’t be playing against bots!

1. DO: Say more phrases to elders in greeting 

When it comes to Chinese New Year greetings, it is tradition to greet elders, family members, and whoever you meet with well wishes. 

One of the popular phrases used throughout bigger regions like China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong that most are familiar with is 恭喜发财 (gong xi fa cai or gong hei fatt choy in Cantonese), and 新年快乐 (xin nian kuai le). 

As long as you have at least these two in your greetings handbook, you’re more than ready to greet people and get more ang paos this CNY in the process! 

DON’T: Be antisocial

Family gatherings are all about catching up with loved ones, and this rings even more true in important traditional festivities like CNY. 

Always remember, there will always be more opportunities to earn more ang paos this CNY if you go out there and wish others during this period!

2. DO: Put on your new clothes for CNY and dress up 

It is a tradition to dress your best during the CNY period, especially on the first and second day as a symbol of the fresh start for the Lunar New Year and a herald for good fortunes for the new year.

Looking good has also turned into one of the more exciting activities during CNY and it’s an opportunity for people to show off their latest fashion haul, dressing their best for visiting family and friends.

DON’T: Dress down or wear black and white clothing

According to tradition, wearing black and white clothing is typically frowned upon especially on the first day of the new year because it is associated with mourning. 

Besides, who wants to get in the bad books of the people who are going to give you ang paos? I don’t know about you, but definitely not me!

3. DO: Spring clean before Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year spring cleaning tradition has found itself rooted in centuries of Chinese culture. Many have believed that this helps to ‘sweep’ away bad luck from the previous year and prepare for a fresh start in the new year. 

Usually, most people would start spring cleaning a week before the first day of Chinese New Year so that their home would be ready in time. So set some time aside to tidy your room, scrub your floors, and do whatever you need for spring cleaning!

DON’T: Sweep the floor on Chinese New Year’s first day

There are many taboos associated with Chinese New Year and one of them is to not sweep the floor or take the rubbish out on the first day of the new year. In ancient tradition, it is believed that sweeping the floor is akin to carrying your fortune out for the rest of the year. 

Between spending time with family and hosting visits, there probably won’t be that much time to actually sweep the floor so be rest assured. Perhaps a safe bet would be to not touch any cleaning equipment at all!

4. DO: Give away mandarin oranges

You might know or have seen people buying and giving mandarin oranges during the Chinese New Year period and that is because there is a significant culture attached to that. 

The act of gifting mandarin oranges during celebration symbolises wishing someone happiness and prosperity, and is seen as giving them “wealth”. 

I don’t know about you but personally, I love receiving mandarin oranges not only for that reason but also because they somehow taste sweeter during this period as compared to others! 

Maybe because I’m also getting ang paos for CNY alongside them, who knows?

DON’T: Speak about inauspicious things

This might sound like a no-brainer, but since Chinese New Year is a celebration about ushering in the new year with good vibes, then it sounds only natural to not speak about inauspicious things. 

Phrases related to ill-luck or just cursing in general should be avoided. In this time of festivities, I gather you would probably be too busy catching up with family members and entertaining visitors to think about anything else so that’s a good sign.

5. DO: Enjoy a festive feast 

In many cultures of the world, nothing connects family and loved ones more than bonding over a shared meal together. 

Similarly, it is an important tradition to gather around for the reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year. One of the most important family meals of the year is yu sheng — a raw fish salad — where everyone tosses it together to usher in prosperity, abundance, and vigour. 

My favourite ingredient in yu sheng is always the raw fish but I have to admit, when everything is eaten together it is equally just as delicious!

DON’T: Eat porridge for breakfast 

This might also sound a little strange for those who are not familiar with the traditions behind it, but porridge is considered an inappropriate food to be served as the first meal of Chinese New Year. 

In ancient China, the less fortunate could only eat porridge and so the superstition of consuming porridge during breakfast is considered a bad start to the new year. 

Of course, given how much food there will be during Chinese New Year, you would probably be spoilt for choices.

Releasing sky lanterns has always been a symbol of peace and good fortune, and now you don’t have to go all the way to Taiwan or Thailand to do so! 

Held in Palawan Green at Sentosa, you can start the fun and games early at 3pm and secure a good spot to chope with your mats so that you can have a clear view of where the festivities will take place! 

Since it is the afternoon, I gather it might get a little hot and due to the unpredictable weather recently, I would also bring raincoats and umbrellas just in case. 

We’re all in suspense at the moment regarding the line-up of the musical artists so stay tuned for updates, but what we do know is that there will be musical acts ranging from House, EDM, R&B, Pop & Rock genres so there’s something for everyone! 

Oh, and did I mention that there will also be a guest celebrity DJ, and cultural performances from surprise guests? 

It already sounds so lit, and that’s not the only thing that will be.

The actual lantern release will happen at 7.30pm in the evening, so we get to see how pretty the night sky will be lit by these floating lanterns.

All you Disney fans will finally have your Tangled moment, including me!

You can be rest assured of environmental hazards though, as the sky lanterns are not really going to be floating up into the sky. 

They will be tethered to the ground with a 60-metre bamboo string attached to them, suspended in the air between five to ten minutes before returning to the ground where you can just pick it up.

I definitely know how that feels, and it’s about time to expand my travel destinations to elsewhere other than locations I’ve been to more than twice (ahem Batam and Bali).  

And that’s why we have collated this list full of Airbnbs at underrated nature places for you to visit next!

1. Private cabin in Luang Prabang, Laos

What’s better than staying at a cabin in the middle of the mountains in a country like Laos? This Airbnb in Luang Prabang is so isolated from modernity that it feels like you have travelled to another time period.

The seclusion of this aesthetically rustic cabin is a huge bonus if you’re a fan of privacy, as you are surrounded by nothing but the lush greenery of mountains and a serene lake. Don’t worry though, there is still Wi-Fi available and if you’re coming by car or have rented one, there are free parking spaces available!

2. Treehouse in Mae Chan, Thailand

Ever wanted to experience what it was like to sleep in an actual treehouse like in American movies? You get to go through the novelty of that for just S$38 per night in Mae Chan, Thailand!

This unique treehouse in Thailand has access to a lake and because it is literally on top of a tree, you can guarantee fantastic views of the property’s garden as well as the surrounding mountainous landscape.

Do take note that because the treehouse is a little cosy, it is only big enough for two with a single bed inside and a hammock on the balcony. It even has a pool for you to refresh yourself in! This is one of the Airbnbs soaked in nature that definitely gives you an experience that you can only find in the countryside, away from the city.

3. Leafy Greens in Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Thailand

One of the more interesting Airbnbs that I came across is Leafy Greens located in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Lord of the Rings fans might have a field day with this space as it was specially constructed as an earthen home closely resembling a hobbit house. Inspired by nature and the concept of living with frugality, the entire house is made of clay and its eco-friendly design is top tier. 

Don’t worry though, all the amenities you need are there and the best part is it’s from S$30 per night! I, for one, am definitely adding this one to my to-visit list because of how private and close it is to nature.

4. Dolphin Bay Resort in Chhak Saracen, Cambodia

Dolphin Bay Resort in Chhak Saracen is a large space that has plenty of nature lodges within the property. You’re able to book a room within the lodges and enjoy complete privacy as well as freedom to explore the property. 

There is a restaurant on premises that serves both Khmer and Western cuisine, so if you are up for trying local food, it’s definitely on the table (literally). 

And the best part? The Airbnb room is a few steps away from the gorgeous sandy beaches of Saracen Bay and it’s all from S$25 per night. 

I can’t think of anything better than stepping out of my room and facing the ocean, so I’ll definitely be looking into this one as well.

5. Rock Garden in Sa Pa, Vietnam

If you want to reside on the top of the world (or close to it) then this cabin in Sa Pa, Vietnam occupies a gorgeous space right in the middle of the mountains. This is one of the few Airbnbs in Asia that is snugly encircled by mountaineous nature entirely, providing spectacular views of the region. 

The cabin is high enough in altitude for you to enjoy views of the rock mountains, local terrains and landscapes, and even above the clouds! If the views have not convinced you yet, perhaps the weather will. 

Since it is waaaaay up in the mountains, the weather is cooling and the air is crisp. This place is perfect if you want to escape from the city. 

I mean at S$82 per night, you get floor to ceiling windows with a majestic sight, so sign me up!

6. Cabin on a Hill Project in Antipolo, Philippines

Right in the middle of the Philippines’ longest mountain range — Sierra Madre — sits a quaint little cabin on a hill. If you truly want to go off the grid, then Cabin on a Hill Project is definitely right up your alley. 

Picture a more luxurious type of camping, and that is essentially the whole vibe. Not only do you get 360 views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, you’re also granted privacy. But don’t worry, you won’t go too far off the grid, as there is still a relatively strong internet signal within the cabin. 

Complete the camping experience with a firepit and bonfire out front, which is perfect for families to gather and spend time together. And it is only S$76 per night, with a maximum occupancy of up to five people. 

That is so worth it in my opinion!

7. Traditional Bunong Hut in Krong Saen Monourom, Cambodia

Culture buffs, now you finally get to have a more intimate understanding of how the Bunong indigenous people live with this traditional Bunong hut! 

Truly a minimalistic beauty in the heart of nature in East Cambodia, the locals are famous for being very hospitable and you’ll be able to enjoy tours around the place. What’s better than staying in an authentic traditional Bunong hut and learning about the culture at the same time? 

I’ve always loved to go places for landscapes, learning about cultures and local traditions, as well as trying native food. This is definitely an opportunity to learn more about indigenous tribes in Southeast Asia and it’s just S$20 per night!

8. Happy Elephant Bungalows, Koh Rong, Cambodia

Situated on Koh Rong Island, Happy Elephant Bungalows is a large property of several bungalows and it is just perfect for the setting! Surrounded by the vast expanse of ocean, the bungalows are along an incline on a hill so views are guaranteed. 

Whilst not as private as other places on this list, this is part of the Airbnbs still situated in a relatively nature and tranquil area where you get to have the jungle as your backyard. 

And your porch? You’ll wake up to an exclusive view overlooking the beach and sea, something the boring city lights definitely cannot serve. 

From S$47 per night, the simplicity of this bungalow is fashioned into a lovely stay that is definitely one for the memory books.

Making its grand return from 19 January to 8 February 2024, Light to Night 2024 lights up the Civic District with 60 artworks along with exciting programmes.

This year, the iconic visual arts festival will deliver a multitude of sensorial experiences inspired from history, origin, and culture from the National Collection. The overarching theme for Light to Night 2024 is Reimagine, and most of the artwork and exhibition installations feature works by veteran and budding Southeast Asian artists. 

These works come in unconventional artistic forms and present a challenge to normal perceptions of art. Aside from being visually pleasing and IG-worthy, these artworks also encourage audiences to tap into their creativity as well. 

One of the more engaging exhibtions that really caught me in the feels is Wishful Thinking by Whisperlodge. Here, you’ll get to discover unexpected textures and sounds by taking part in an ASMR video held at the National Gallery Singapore.

If you’ve never experienced the wonders of ASMR, now’s your chance. From caressing different textures and hearing their sound amplified, to popping bubble wrap while listening to a chill audio tape, it’s time to let the beauty of ASMR calm your tired soul and rest your active mind.

I have to admit, at first it does feel kinda weird, but once you get into the zone, you’ll find yourself feeling at ease real quick.

If you can appreciate ASMR, then you might be interested in the live ASMR performance on and around the installation for just S$5 per pax. It’s definitely an interesting experience and if you need a quick escape from your busy life to reconnect with your inner peace, then you should give this one a go.

The Party Pavilion located outside the Asian Civilisations Museum is a must-visit. Apart from being a very pretty photo spot, it also doubles as a disco dance floor for you to show off your groovy moves. Put on your dancing shoes and dance the night away at the party pavilion!

Once you’re done dancing and snapping pics over at the party pavilion, head over to the The Arts House where an adorable projection awaits you. Titled Winter Sonata, Summer Mookata (love the quirky name), this installation will steal your heart with its adorable kittens and trippy imagery. You’ll feel like you’re watching a retro sci-fi cartoon. Also, look at those those eyes!

The facade of the Victoria Concert Hall comes alive with colour costumes, animated visuals and electronic music inspired by the costumes and music of traditional jie xi — a type of Chinese Opera. This projection is titled Embroided Landscapes by SISTRUM and it makes for a another pretty backdrop to pose for pics at, so make sure to get your poses ready!

If you’re a fan of lights and illumination, one of the signature installations by Kumari Nahappan, Wings of Change, is sure to take your breath away.

Standing at six metres tall, this installation features inflatable materials that lights up after sunset with the Padang serving as a pretty backdrop. You’re also encouraged to walk around the largest saga seed in a clockwise direction to encourage living in the present and going with the flow.

We all know it’s common courtesy not to touch artwork installations in general but Lee Wen’s Ping Pong Go Round is an interactive exhibition that actually invites audiences to be part of the artwork. 

That’s not all, you’ll also be able to challenge your friends to a game of ping pong. Yes, you read that right. How often do you get the chance to play ping pong in the National Gallery?

Other exhibitions located inside the National Gallery include the Rapture by Victor Tan, and Symphony of Order by Sarah Choo Jing and Matthias Choo. The latter was giving “POV you’re the main course” kind of vibes and if I’m being completely honest, watching them eat made me a little hungry too.

Ooh! And during festival weekends — Friday through Sunday — National Gallery Singapore will extend its opening hours until 11pm and even have free admission to some of the exhibitions! 

This installation was by far one of my favourites and certainly the one where I had the most fun. Located along the Underground Pedestrian Link at Funan, the Gachapon Complex is a more vibrant and colourful art installation that gives us a glimpse into the world where toys live a life much like ours — kinda like Toy Story of sorts.

Apart from being a great backdrop for fun and quirky pics for the gram, the installation also incorporates augmented reality component where you’ll be able to add filters to your pictures. The installation stretches the entire linkway with four different designs to pose with — feel free to be as wacky as possible.

Checking out cool art installations and projections isn’t all you’ll get to do at Light to Night 2024. There’ll be a line-up of exciting activities across the weekend too like the Canvas Collective: A Tour Reimagined. Dungeons and Dragons fans can look forward to participating in the Dungeons and Dragons: The Arts Quest for just S$20/45-minute session.

Once you’re done with the exhibitions, you should definitely stop by the Art x Social Festival Village to grab a bite and drink with its various F&B options. Along with additional live performances, conversations, and tours, Light to Night 2024 is sure to be a fun event for all! 

Just a tip, Light to Night 2024 is free entry for all but there are some exhibitions that require ticketing which you can purchase from the official website.
