What makes Skosh’s hand rolls stand out is the thoughtful design – a plastic wrap over the Nico Nico Yaki Nori (roasted seaweed) ensures the nori stays crisp and snappy, even as you’re eating on the go.

Skosh’s menu features 13 different hand rolls, including 5 premium flavours for those looking to indulge a little more. We opted for the Skosh Tasting Menu (S$32.80), which came with a curated selection of 5 hand rolls: Snow Crab (S$5.50), Torched Octopus (S$6.50), Hokkaido N34 (S$10.80), Aka Ebi (S$4.50), and Negitoro (S$6.50). Each offers a distinct taste and texture, from delicate and sweet to rich and smoky.

Our top 2 favourites are the Negitoro, minced raw tuna marinated with scallion sauce, soy-curated egg yolk, and furikake, the perfect amount of umami in each bite. Another is the Snow Crab with Japanese cucumber, salted egg tempura bits, and ponzu pearls. The crab’s natural sweetness shone through, making it light and easy to eat. 

Out of curiosity, we also tried the Samsui Scallion Chicken (S$4.50) hand roll, and it did not disappoint. Skosh managed to capture the essence of chicken rice in a hand roll form, pairing tender, fragrant chicken with their chilli-garlic-ginger sauce that tied the whole bite together. 

Sides

From the Sides menu, the Sesame Lotus Salad (S$5) stood out with an interesting flavour combination of lotus root and edamame beans tossed in black sesame dressing, a crunchy, refreshing palate cleanser. 

Specialty Drinks

Introducing three new drinks added to the menu: the Miso Brown Sugar Matcha, Matcha Parfait, and Kinaki Matcha, each priced at S$9.

The Matcha Parfait is topped with creamy house-made Matcha Whip and more matcha powder, a dessert lover’s dream, served in cup form! The Miso Brown Sugar Matcha is prepared using house-made miso cream, miso-infused matcha, and Japanese brown sugar syrup. A unique take on matcha that incorporates a salty element, umami-forward with a hint of sweetness. 

If you’d like the best of both worlds, try the Kinaki Matcha, our personal favourite! It is made with house-made Kinaki Paste and Foam, matcha, and Japanese brown sugar syrup, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and savoury notes. We liked the new flavours so much, we ended up getting extras for takeaway. No regrets! 

Craving a light and refreshing matcha? Try their Coconut Matcha (S$9) or Yuzu Matcha (S$9). An interesting item on their menu is the Matcha Lychee Lager (S$15) – beer and matcha in a cup.

Desserts

The Mochi Matcha Basque Cheesecake (S$12) had the creamiest, smoothest Matcha filling, wrapped in the softest house-made mochi. A slice is good for one without being too jelak, though we’d recommend sharing it if you’re also planning to order the Kinako Mochi with brown sugar syrup (S$6). The brown sugar syrup verges on being quite sweet, almost resembling gula melaka, and pairs beautifully with the mochi.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the new Skosh outlet, and it’s safe to say we’re already planning our next visit!

In the midst of the high-end brand stores, better known as a shopper’s heaven, sits Cafe Nesuto. Its relaxing yet classy ambience is accompanied by satisfied customers wolfing down different dishes available on the menu. 

At the sight of the dishes, my heart sank with fear. Professionally, this is not my first media invitation, as I used to coordinate various media publications on behalf of my former clients. 

Now, with the tables already turnt, I was engulfed by the anxiousness and fear of failing to meet the team’s expectations, despite the encouragement showered by the loving team. 

Moreover, I am an exceptionally picky eater, where the moment I sense the slightest fishiness, gaminess, or griminess in my food, my taste buds overwhelm me, and the food remains half eaten. 

My palate is intolerant due to my mom’s comforting home-cooked dishes. Yet, determination and drive were all I knew as I strode into the cafe, with confidence, alongside another co-worker to brave through the dishes. 

Alicia, the founder of Cafe Nesuto, greeted us warmly and walked us through the menu. Instantaneously, I was mesmerised by the backstory of each dish and how they were curated and executed in the hands of passionate chefs. 

For the savoury dishes, we started with the Braised Miso Chicken Leg (S$24), 24-hour Braised Beef Short Ribs (S$38) and the House-Cured Salmon Eggs Benedict (S$25). 

The Braised Miso Chicken Leg blew my mind immediately with the slew of textures and tastes swirling on my palate. From the crunchiness of the Genmai, a Japanese brown rice green tea, to the tenderness of the chicken meat, the experience felt like a firework of flavours bursting in my mouth. 

Coupled with the flowy miso sake cream sauce blending with the creamy mashed potatoes, the whole experience had me checking if I was in Singapore or Japan. 

The next contender was the House-Cured Salmon Eggs Benedict, which I had low expectations for. Due to the salmon, I was afraid of the subtle piscine taste and the slight sulfur taste from the runny eggs. 

However, I was proven wrong yet again when I was surprised by the strong yuzu taste that was infused in the runny egg, which overrode any of the pungent or sulfur taste commonly known in eggs. Furthermore, the yuzu infused runny eggs harmonise with the salmon so well that I could not detect any piscine, fishy taste at all. 

Once we had our fill of the savoury dishes, we were both excited to try Vanilla French Toast with Maple & Seasonal Fruit (S$16) and Banana Cream Pie Soft Serve Parfait (S$15), especially since I have the biggest sweet tooth in the Confirm Good team. 

Right off the bat, the Vanilla French Toast with Maple & Seasonal Fruit did an amazing job of balancing the sweetness from the fresh strawberries and sourness from the vanilla chantilly. Topped with the crispy yet soft brioche toast, the texture mix was surprisingly savoury and not overwhelmingly sweet. 

However, the French Toast could not win over the Banana Cream Pie Soft Serve Parfait, which was the sweetest, milkiest, richest dessert I’ve ever had the privilege to try. 

The soft serve is concocted from milk supplied by Narita Dream Farm, a dairy farm based in Tokyo, Japan, which explains why the parfait won my heart easily, as I am a sucker for high-quality dairy goods. 

Adding on to the Japanese milk, the miso cream, fresh bananas, chocolate streusel, and pie sticks mingled excellently well together, to a point where we were both addicted to the parfait more than the French toast itself. 

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at my first media invite. Cafe Nesuto knows how not to disappoint and win over my picky eater’s heart. From Alicia’s storytelling, the presentation of the dishes, to falling in love with all the dishes with every bite, Cafe Nesuto has the heart and soul infused across their entire menu. 

Personally, I would order the Braised Miso Chicken Leg and Banana Cream Pie Soft Serve Parfait again when I get the chance to return with my friends.

Because, let’s face it, nothing beats eating freshly made food right there and then.

One of these bakeries is none other than Kobashi Bakery.

As you might have guessed, they were formed in 2020 and instantly drew attention for their unique flavours of sourdough donuts. Or, as they call it, ‘sourdo’nut’.

Fast forward to 2024, Coffeehouse by Kobashi has set up shop at South Bridge Road (it’s literally just opposite DAWN) to not only attract a whole new audience but also satisfy long-time fans.

What’s more, it’s not just donuts being offered here. Look forward to all-day food and drinks menus that will no doubt make Kobashi one of your go-to brunch places.

I started out with a brunch staple — Loaded Mentaiko Fries (S$16). The fries are topped with bonito flakes, shredded seaweed and tobiko, and drenched with grilled mentaiko sauce. It was simply full of umami goodness.

However, this may come off as a little whiny but there needs to be more mentaiko sauce. When the sauce is executed this well, it needs to be poured liberally.

If you want something more filling, the Bangin’ Mash (S$15) with chicken kielbasa sausages drizzled with caramelised onion gravy is recommended by the co-owner himself.

Since Kobashi is known for their sourdough (which is made fresh in-house), I had to give their all day toasts a try. The Smoked Sallie (S$17) caught my eye for its topping of smoked salmon mixed with dill crema.

The dill sauce was creamy yet light and refreshing with a hint of tangy lemon flavour. Paired with salad on the side, the dish is perfect for a lighter brunch that’s easy on the stomach.

I then moved on to the mains, specifically the Koba Baby (S$15). It’s supposed to be a smaller version of the Big Koba (S$25) but even then, I had some difficulties finishing the meal.

In my defence, the dish is their version of the classic Big Breakfast, so there was a lot going on my plate (I mean this in a literal sense).

I tucked into bacon, scrambled eggs, sous-vide mushroom, cherry tomatoes and tater tots, alongside a thick slice of sourdough bread.

Personally, I would’ve liked the mushroom and bacon to have more flavour to them. I found these two components a little bland, which affected the overall taste (and not to forget, satisfaction!) of the dish.

I also ordered their Chilled Truffle Capellini (S$28). On a superficial level, it was due to the fact that this dish is particularly raved about on social media. But practically speaking, no brunch is truly complete without a pasta dish on the table.

And, thank goodness I did not skip this one out. The pasta was cooked till al dente and tossed in fragrant truffle oil that complimented the seafood so well. Don’t worry, it wasn’t at all overpowering!

For a dedicated bakery, their drinks were surprisingly innovative. The Whipped Milo Latte (S$7.50) is a local take on the standard mocha, whereas the Honey Coffee Milk Foam (S$7) was hands down my favourite given how smooth and subtly sweet it was.

Matcha lovers, you’ll surely reach for the Matcha Strawberry (S$8.50). The matcha is slightly bitter and possesses grassier notes, yielding a well-balanced beverage that’s neither too sweet nor earthy .

Of course, I couldn’t leave Coffeehouse by Kobashi without getting my hands on their signature sourdo’nuts. As my stomach could no longer take in more food, I had to take these donuts to go.

The Pistachio Raspberry (S$6.50) and Brown Butter Vanilla Craquelin (S$6.50) are seasonal premium flavours , so be sure to savour them while they’re available!

For a classic donut flavour that you can count on, the Passionfruit Mango (S$6) hits all the right spots with its sweet and zesty filling. The sugar-coated exterior offered a satisfying crunch that even someone with a less-than-sweet tooth like mine couldn’t resist.

All in all, Kobashi’s donuts are unexpectedly well-made and are the main draw for most diners (myself included). While their hot foods could use some refinement, it’s worth noting they’ve only recently opened their doors.

With time, I’m sure they’ll perfect it.

Rollmance Dawn is an anime-themed cafe in JB boasting over 100 figurines from popular anime shows and movies including the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, Spy Family and many more fan favourites.

Regardless of whether you’re a certified otaku or not, the eye-catching array of statues will be  a sight for sore eyes.

I can only imagine how exciting it must be for a fan to step into this cafe as it is lined from countertops to walls with memorabilia and statues, big and small, making for an IG-worthy moment (see if you can spot any of your favourite characters or exclusive pieces).

But that’s not all, as there are plenty of fun activities to spend your afternoon doing like browsing through a one piece manga or playing a classic game of monopoly with your pals.

Feeling a little peckish?

Worry not, they serve milk and fruit tea as well as desserts. 

Munch on a crepe roll that comes in various flavours like Chocolate (S$7.45, RM26), Matcha (S$6.31, RM22), or Strawberry (S$6.31, RM22) coated in chocolate and filled with cream.

Alternatively, you can indulge in a Tiramisu (S$4.58, RM16) or Oreo Tiramisu (S$4.87, RM17) — very value-for-money.

Afterwards, refresh yourself with their signature Grapefruit Tea (S$3.98, RM13.90) or Grape Tea (S$3.98, RM13.90) with just the right amount of sweetness.

Coffee lovers should try the macchiato series like the White Peach Oolong Tea or Jasmine Tea for S$3.98 (RM13.90) each. Or if you prefer something that is a little more indulgent, get the Milo (S$4.27, RM14.90) loaded with milo powder.

Before you leave, try your luck at the claw machine for just S$0.28 (RM1) where you can redeem a drink with 15 flavours to choose from. 

Plus, there are mini prizes to be won as long as you spend S$8.60 (RM30) including a daily free drink for a month, toy collectibles or discount vouchers of varying amounts.

June Coffee is a minimalistic Japanese-Scandinavian-themed cafe that serves all-day brunch, mains, and coffee, just 15 minutes away from East Coast Park. 

Since it is conveniently located near the park, it seems like the perfect pit stop after your cycling session, perhaps?

Stop by for refreshments like the Black Sesame Latte (S$8) which comprises non-dairy sesame cream, double espresso, and fresh milk. I just can’t get enough of its nutty and aromatic fragrance that exudes cosy vibes. 

Alternatively, you can always top up an additional S$1 for Oatside or soy milk for those who are lactose intolerant (like myself). 

Matcha lovers would go crazy for their matcha series including good ol’ Matcha Latte (S$6) and Strawberry Matcha Latte (S$8) alongside unique combos that you don’t see everyday like Blueberry Matcha Latte (S$8) and Kinako Matcha (S$8) . The latter features matcha, fresh milk and kinako (roasted soybeans) topped with sea salt soy foam for an earthy aftertaste.

It’s only right that you treat yourself after burning up all that calories at the park, am I right? 

Indulge in the hearty Beef Tenderloin Croffle (S$24) which boasts tender sliced beef tenderloin with pickled onions served on a croffle finished off with demi-glace and spicy mayo.

But if you’re like me and enjoy filling up on a traditional American-style breakfast, they do serve french toasts like the classic Original (S$12). It comes with a thick slice of brioche toast which may look unassuming at first, but it’s extremely filling and loaded with luscious amounts of salted compound butter and honey.

Besides that, the Honey, Lemon & Ricotta (S$17) comes with whipped ricotta infused with lemon, thyme, and candied pecans if you prefer a citrusy twang.

There are other pastas and sides as well like Rose Rigatoni (S$20) and Truffle Tater Tots (S$8 for half, S$14 for full) for those that are thinking of making dinner plans here. 

They also have a takeaway corner for you to grab-your-coffee to-go if you’re in a rush. Be it for a quick coffee break or brunch date, there’s plenty of small bites and drinks to choose from.

Mnemonic Brew has its roots borne in Malaysia and having just soft launched in Singapore a few months ago, it remains as a hidden gem in the heart of the CBD.

Now I hear what you’re thinking, “Got so many coffee places already what, why this one so special?”. I had the same questions too. 

But then I found out that what makes Mnemonic Brew stand out is its high quality Brazilian and Colombian roasted coffee beans sourced from the best in the region, as well as their artisanal creations. 

Mnemonic Brew sits in a small and cosy spot on the second floor of Oxley Tower, and a glance at their menu shows just how unique their artisanal creations are. 

Their Smoked Cinnamon Latte (hot: S$7, iced: S$7.50) is one of their Mnemonic Specials, served with a burnt cinnamon stick and boy, does the aroma fill your senses almost instantly. 

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen this unique concoction anywhere else. Feel free to prove me wrong on this!

I also had my eye on the Sea Salt Coffee (iced: S$8) and the Osmanthus Latte (hot: S$7, iced: S$7.50). 

Of course, they also have the classic coffees like Espresso (hot: S$4) and Caffe Latte (hot: S$6, iced: S$6.50). 

If you’re not feeling the coffee vibes, then you would be delighted to know that Mnemonic Brew also has non-coffee options!

Their mocktails include the signature Thyme on the Rocks (S$8), served with a sprig of thyme to complete the look. 

Besides coffee, Mnemonic Brew also has light sandwiches for you to nibble on. Their Eggsquisite (S$8.90), whilst simple, is slabbed with a thick layer of egg garnished with scallions. 

That amount of egg is already enough to make me succumb. If it wasn’t obvious enough already, yes, I love eggs. 

They also have other pastries such as muffins and butter croissants that you can take-away with your coffee, which you might have to find yourself doing since there are limited spaces to sit in the shop.  

But if you’re lucky enough to grab seats in the shop, make sure to catch the gorgeous views of the city through the tall glass windows. Certainly a great spot to sit and work over a nice cup of joe, or even just to people-watch. 

And with Christmas just around the corner, Mnemonic Brew has some coffee specials lined up! 

This festive season, their handcrafted brews include Apple Ginger coffee, a fusion of fresh apple juice, ginger extract, mixed together with coffee to form a merry delight for the tastebuds.

They also have Citrus Eggnog, a combination of orange, cinnamon, eggnog, and coffee. I will definitely want to try this one before the holidays end!

Taking place from 12 June to 20 August 2023, the collaboration will take over the space previously occupied by Attack on Titan and will feature themed interiors from the manga series. You’ll also get to taste food that Anya ate in the series, as well as chow down on some exclusive food offerings and more. 

On the menu are hearty mains, sinful desserts, and beverages that reference some of your favourite characters, as well as iconic scenes and locations from the anime. Yes, you’ll definitely see the quintessential pink shade (Anya’s hair) popping up quite a fair bit in some of the dishes. 

I don’t know about you but the food served in anime always looks so good. If you’ve ever wondered what the food in Spy x Family tastes like, or at least the Sorry Omurice that appeared in Episode 7, you’re in luck! The cafe has brought the SORRY Omurice S$18 to life, complete with the words “sorry” piped in ketchup — definitely a must try when you visit. 

Apart from featuring dishes from the show, there are some dishes that were created to represent certain characters. Anya’s Pink Pasta (S$18) features pasta, ham, and cheese with a creamy cherry blossom pink mushroom sauce. The dish also comes with peanuts served on the side — that’s right, peanuts. There’s also the Eden Academy School Cafeteria Bento (S$22) which will surely transport you to the halls of the school. 

The Anya Strawberry Milkshake (S$9) comes complete with her pointy headband, while Yor’s Red Velvet Lava Cake (S$15) combines the dark yet sweet personality of its namesake. 

Apart from food and drinks, there’s also limited edition merch available at the store. But, the best part is you can score merch for free! With every S$15 spent on merch, you’ll get a lenticular card at random for free, and with every S$40 spent, you’ll get a luggage tag.

What makes Three Point Two stand out from the rest is that one-of-a-kind colour palette, vibrantly decked out in bubble gum pink and royal blue. Pretty much a perfect spot for those who want an OOTD for the ‘gram.

To make things even better for cafe hoppers, Three Point Two is located in Kampong Bahru, in close proximity to other popular cafes.

Unlike the minimalistic vibes of their neighbours, they bring much more energy with their eye-catching colour coordination.

But despite the bright colours, it doesn’t look tacky at all, especially with the sleek interior design.

You can add Three Point Two to your itineraries, alongside Strangers’ Reunion, Kream & Kensho and a newly-opened Plain Vanilla.

Another fun fact about them is that they’re actually opened by Pang Zi Durian, who specialise in Durian Desserts. So Durian lovers have something to be excited about.

All of Three Point Two’s gelato is made in-house and you can get a Single scoop for S$4 or Double Scoop for S$7.50, Premium flavours cost S$1 more. Meanwhile their signature Mao Shan Wang flavour will require a top-up of S$2.

Leave it to Three Point Two to leave your palate refreshed with lighter classic flavours like Watermelon Mint, Lychee Rose, and Honey Lavender.

Alternatively, you can also find the classic flavours like Black Sesame, Pistachio, and Ferrero Rocher. Not to mention their quirky Blue Vanilla flavour, if you want a twist on the classic vanilla flavour.

Of course, they also have Waffles (S$5.50) for you to pair your gelato scoops with its favourite partner-in-crime.

Besides the ice cream, durian connoisseurs will no doubt be itching to dive into the range of durian desserts at Three Point Two.

Most interesting of all is the Durian Mousse (S$5.50), a rather popular dessert recently. A decadent puree made from fresh D24 flesh would surely hit the spot for those craving a durian fix.

Otherwise, there are also D24 Durian Puffs (S$10.90/10pcs, $30/30pcs), D24 Durian Mochi (S$10/4pcs, S$55/24pcs), and Mao Shan Wang Craquelin Puffs (S$13.80/6pcs, S$39/18pcs) if pastries are more up your alley.

The 3-day-old café situated at SOTA is a multi-concept café of sorts. They share their space with furniture makers Etch & Bolts who have their catalogue on display.

Customers can choose to nestle themselves into any of the cosy chairs for maximum comfort. Each piece has a price tag attached so if you somehow fall in love with a chair during your stay, bring it home.

It has to be said, the organised clutter of the furniture lends a unique and gritty urban vibe to the place. There’s also a touch of retro-modern flair thrown in too from an array of quirky prints and rustic leather couches.

Void Café aren’t allowed to serve food due to restrictions, but you’d notice their menu is still quite extensive.

For their coffee, they use a special house blend that’s a mix of Brazilian and Sumatran single origins. I was also informed that they roast their own beans, as all good specialty coffeehouses should.

You can get espresso-based drinks like a Cappuccino (S$5.80) or Flat White (S$5.80) or if you have a sweet tooth, choices like Matcha Latte (S$7.20/hot, S$8.20/iced) and Mocha Ice Blended (S$7.50) are also available

Their flat white was not bad—a decent microfoam mouth feel, gentle floral notes, a nice dose of nuttiness. There was also a moderate amount of acidity, which might appeal to some.

The café’s supposed signature however, is actually their cold brews with Black (S$6.50), White (S$7) and Filtered Coffee (S$7.50) options available. You can get it straight from their website too, if it’s too far a detour.

There’s also something for all the boba fanatics in their signature cold brew range—a Single Origin Boba Tea (S$5.80). It was sold out when I visited so that has to be a good sign. They also have a 1-for-1 opening promo if 1 isn’t enough (it never is).

There are admittedly some opening kinks. Maybe it’s the crowd but I felt my order was prepared somewhat slowly. Still, there are enough intriguing trinkets to hold your attention. Or you could just slump into one of their comfy chairs.

It’s the early days but Void Café’s cosy ambiance will certainly appeal as a chilling spot for students from neighbouring SOTA and SMU.

It’s a concept by skate enthusiasts, for skate enthusiasts. Halfpipe Skate Bar is the brainchild of snowboarding company The Ride Side who aimed to combine skating, snowboarding and coffee all under one roof.

To build on that idea, it’s made remarkably accessible to skaters, being just a stone’s throw away from Somerset Skate Park. Now skaters don’t have to wrack their brains over where to get that caffeine boost after shredding the halfpipe.

Coffee is the main focus and they don’t just pull their shots with any random roasts—their espresso blend is specially roasted for them by coffee veterans Penny University.

Their menu has pretty much the range of coffee you’d expect from most cafes, from the classic Black (S$4) and White ($5) to the trendier Specialty Cold Brews, available in both White (S$7) or and Black (S$8).

Alternatively, you can get some House Blend Beans for your home brews. Each bag costs S$18 for 200g or S$55 for 1kg.

Like how they cater to both snowboarders and skateboarders, they also cater to coffee lovers and the caffeine-intolerant. If coffee ain’t your thing, go for some of the alternatives like some rich Chocolate (S$5) or a refreshing Kombucha (S$7).

If you something more exciting to celebrate finally nailing that hardflip, Halfpipe Skate Bar does offer boozy beverages. They have the word bar in their name, after all.

They have a strong curation of craft beer, with a diverse selection including Aussie darlings Moon Dog to cult Danish brand To Øl. Lager, stouts, or sours—something for everyone.

The coolest thing about Halfpipe Skate Bar isn’t just the coffee though. The 12-seater space in Halfpipe serves as a hangout spot for the skater community but a portion of the shop space is also dedicated to retail for gear.

Halfpipe has the whole experience planned out for skaters, and I for one am excited to see how they grow. Hey, maybe it’s even time for me to get into becoming a sk8rboi.
