Hop aboard the Knight Bus to catch a ride to Number 12, Grimmauld Place. This is your chance to relieve Harry Potter’s experience as the bus mimics the movie’s mind-boggling interior with wacky beds and chandeliers — all while “whizzing” past cars and trucks.  

After the bumpy ride, step inside the towering walls of the Ministry of Magic, where you can get up close and personal to the iconic wizarding ministries in Paris, London, and New York.

Hold on tight to your wands as you’ll need it to explore the Hall of Prophecy and unlock whispers of the future. This vast and dim chamber might bring memories to some as it was where the legendary battle between Dumbledore’s Army and Death Eaters took place.

Afterwards, it’s on to the Chamber of Secrets, located beneath Hogwarts Castle and home to an ancient Basilisk monster. This attraction is open exclusively in Singapore, alongside the Trap Door, which takes you to a hidden maze of chambers guarding none other than the Philosopher’s Stone.

Besides that, you can expect to find a room dedicated to the Pensieve, the Room of Requirement, and the captivating wonder of Newt’s Menagerie. P.S remember to check your pockets before you leave as we all know the Niffler has an insatiable attraction to sparkly objects. 

After soaking up all the magic around you, make sure to treat yourself to a frothy glass of Butterbeer, then load up on bespoke goodies and Harry Potter merchandise to take the wizarding world home with you!

11 iconic films like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and more will be showcased in the form of interactive, large-scale exhibits, across the studio’s history, so there’s much to look forward to.

Get ready to escape from reality and find yourself traversing through enchanting worlds — 16 large-scale interactive theatrical sets — that the beloved animation studio have built. 

There’ll also be 16 whimsical art installations offering an intimate glimpse into Studio Ghibli’s creative processes, as well as a retail shop selling exclusive official merchandise and souvenirs.

Unlike the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo which does not allow any pictures to be taken, feel free to bring your cameras and go crazy at the exhibition!

You might even chance upon your favourite character like No Face, Catbus or even Totoro. I know I’ll be looking to snap a selfie with a certain magic-wielding blonde individual (cough Howl).

But, we can’t forget about the other areas and I think it’s about time that we steer our attention towards the North and pay a visit to one (or two) hidden gems there. 

If that wasn’t enough to convince you, this hole-in-the-wall spot may do just the trick.

quasont is a cosy bakery and brunch cafe decorated with modern and chic furnishing in wooden accents, just a stone’s throw away from 888 Plaza in Woodlands. 

It’s hard to miss it as you’ll be able to spot (or even smell) the stunning display of freshly baked pastries from afar. Think croissants, waffles, breads, cheesecakes and so much more — you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice.

The quasont selections range from S$2.80–S$4.80 and include the likes of butter kaya, hazelnut chocolate croissant filled with luscious cream filling, and fruit danish with sweet custard.

For those who choose to go down the savoury route, opt for the cream cheese garlic, tuna croissant or sausage danish, all baked to golden perfection.

For those who aren’t a fan of croissants, there are other pastries and bread from S$2–S$3.80 like the coffee butter, black sesame mochi, red bean mochi, chicken floss with sausage and many more to munch on.

Dropping by for lunch?

Choose from their hot mains and small bites which comprises Seafood Aglio Olio (S$13.80), Salmon Fillet (S$16.80) alongside Tater Pops (S$6.80) and Buffalo Wings (S$9.80).  

Make it a full meal affair with coffee like Einspanner (S$6) or Strawberry Elderflower Brewed Tea (S$5) for non-caffeine lovers.  

But, if you’re in need of a midday sweet treat, treat yourself to a Matcha Cream Roll (S$2.20) AKA cream horns for a nostalgic throwback. Or if you’re throwing a mini celebration, they have slices of Burnt Cheesecake (S$8.80) and Black Forest Cake (S$5.50) up for grabs as well.

That being said, the display selections might rotate daily so I’d check in with the shop before heading down to prevent disappointment.

Considering their extensive menu, it seems like the perfect place to have all your cravings sorted in one place. Just take note that they have limited seating so I’d encourage you to make your way down earlier if you’re planning to dine-in with friends or family.

Well, personally it has been quite awhile since I visited one only because there are so many streaming services at the palms of our hands nowadays.

But, here’s a deal that’s too good to be true that might just change your mind and have you running down to this theatre in Serangoon. 

Shaw Theatres NEX is offering a Special Daytime Access for all to the exclusive and luxe premiere lounge from Mondays to Thursdays (10am–5pm) for just 90 minutes. Best part is, you don’t even have to get a movie ticket in order to enjoy these special perks.

Whether you’re just looking for a place to hang with friends and family before your movie or to work at, this lounge is the perfect place to chill at. Just keep in mind that the special daytime access excludes Eve of Public Holidays and Public Holidays.

As someone who has never visited Shaws Theatre’s Premiere lounge before, the prices definitely seem enticing given the generous amount of goodies they have. This includes a limited time 1-for-1 Fish and Chips Set from 19 June to 18 July 2024. 

You’ll get to choose between a Halibut Fish and Chips Set (S$30.50++) or Dory Fish and Chips Set (S$26.50++) which comes with a side of signature truffle fries and a soft drink. Plus, it is valid for dine-in and takeaways for those who are not planning to stay for long.

Otherwise, there is plenty of movie fare up for grabs, ranging from small bites and full meals to desserts and wine (just remember that last orders are taken at 5pm). So if I were you, I would hurry down right now since it has not been stated when the special daytime access will last until.

There’s only one correct answer and it’s desserts (or at least it is for me). For those who are craving an icy, sweet treat and live in Ang Mo Kio, here’s a late-night dessert cafe worth paying a visit to. 

Escape from the unforgiving heat at the newest kid on the block, ki-mochi, a cosy ice cream shop that serves gelato, waffles, and mochi pancakes. 

Those who are living nearby sure are lucky because it is nestled right under the HDB block so you can get your ice cream fix whenever your heart desires.

Probably one thing that is unique about this cafe is the Signature Mochi Pancake (S$4.50) that boasts a crispy exterior with extra chewy and smooth insides drizzled with honey.

More often than not, we would see ice cream cafes serving Plain Waffle (S$4.50) or Mochi Waffle (S$6) so it’s refreshing to see it in a pancake form instead. 

Plus, who doesn’t want dessert in the form of breakfast?

Pair your pancakes (or waffle) with a Single Scoop (S$4.50) of ice cream, including the likes of Strawberry Milk, Osmanthus Oolong, Tiramisu, and Blue Pea Lemongrass. 

The latter probably goes best with the mochi pancakes as it leans towards a slightly sweet and floral profile from the lemongrass. 

And of course you have the cult favourites like Classic Chocolate, Milk & Honey, Earl Grey Lavender, and my favourite, Cookies & Cream.

But, one scoop is never enough, am I right? 

Go for the Double Scoop (S$8); considering the prices and ingredients used, you’re definitely getting a good bang for your buck. 

Alternatively, those who are more of a cone kinda person or just prefer something less sweet can always opt for the Charcoal Cone (S$1) instead.

Best yet, did I mention that they are open till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays? 

So the next time you’re in need of an indulgent sweet treat after supper, you know where to go!

The only gripe that I have (which some of you may be able to relate to) is that the bill can very easily rack up and my wallet ends up paying the price for it later (literally). So that may be why so many of us choose to go to Johor Bahru instead because everything is priced at a third of its usual prices. 

Well, if you are in the mood to feast to your heart’s content, here are six affordable Korean BBQ spots in Johor Bahru with all-you-can-eat meats, unlimited sides, free-flow noodles and more from just S$10.

1. Sae Ma Eul BBQ

Nothing says affordable more than Sae Ma Eul BBQ’s Charcoal BBQ Buffet priced at just S$10.97++ (RM38.20) per adult and S$7.80++ (RM27.30) per kid for 100 minutes for a minimum of two diners. Think all-you-can-eat meats, including spicy chicken ribs, marinated pork ribs, spicy pork belly, pork belly, and pork shoulder.

Even better, they have a self-service banchan bar so you can help yourself to as much kimchi as you want. Just be mindful of the food wastage and try not to order more than what you can eat! 

As I always say, no meal is complete without desserts — go for the Bingsu (S$2.29, RM8) in an assortment of flavours like green tea, mango, black sesame and more. Although it is 25 minutes away from the checkpoint, this is definitely too good of a deal to miss out on.

2. Itaewon Korean BBQ Buffet

Alternatively, Itaewon Korean BBQ Buffet is another spot to consider, located just 30 minutes away from the checkpoint. 

Hit them up for lunch as the Korean Charcoal BBQ is only S$10.05++ (RM35) per adult and S$8.04++ (RM28) per child for 100 minutes. Those who are planning to come in the evening (after 4pm) may choose to opt for the dinner set for S$10.92++ (RM38) per adult and S$8.90++ (RM31) per kid. 

But, do take note that this is only available for a minimum of two diners so a couple’s date, perhaps? 

This buffet comes with unlimited refills of marinated and spicy pork cuts alongside grilled soy sauce chicken ribs — perfect for meat lovers. 

Not to mention, there is a self-service bar and each diner is entitled to a marshmallow skewer for a toasty treat.

3. Zen Plus Korean BBQ

If you’re someone who prefers variety, Zen Plus Korean BBQ is the place to go in Johor Bahru because they offer the Unlimited Han Sang at just S$11.20++ (RM39) per adult and S$8.04++ (RM28) per kid for 90 minutes. 

Besides getting free-flow meats like pork belly, chicken ribs and more, you can supplement it with carbs like kimchi stew, Korean rice ball, tteokbokki, pizza, and all-you-can-eat ramen.

Have you ever heard of  gorgonzola (cheese) pizza dipped in honey as part of a KBBQ set?  

Well, I haven’t, but I can see how it would help to cut down the greasiness after feasting on all those meats. Considering its sweet and savoury profile, it would be popular amongst the kids or those with a sweet tooth. 

Nonetheless, it’s definitely a hearty meal to treat yourself with.

4. Palsaik Korean BBQ

Picture this: you’ve been walking and shopping for the entire day and you’re suddenly hit with the hunger pangs. 

Enter Palsaik Korean BBQ which is perfect for every shopaholic as it is nestled in Mid Valley Southkey, just a 10-minutes drive away from the checkpoint. Go for the signature Palsaik Pork Belly (S$33.89, RM188) that can comfortably feed up to two to four people.

Unlike the previous spots, this palsaik set comes with pork belly in eight different marinades. Think ginseng, wine, pine, garlic, herb, curry, soybean, and hot pepper for you to embark on a gastronomic adventure. 

To complete your KBBQ experience, the set also comes with a comforting bowl of jjigae (stew) of your choice including soybean paste, spicy seafood or kimchi pork.

They have a set for two pax at just S$34.46 (RM120) serving samgyeopsal (pork belly), a stew of your choice (pork kimchi, red pepper paste or soybean paste), and a steamed egg with flying fish roe. 

Just looking at the juicy and succulent pieces of pork belly bursting with flavour has my mouth watering.

That being said, it’ll be fun to come dressed in your best dreamy spring outfit because there are plenty of IG-worthy spots worth exploring.

Menu-wise, you can mainly expect there to be desserts like cake, bingsu, and drinks that are just as aesthetic as its interior. Think an entire spread of strawberry-flavoured desserts like Strawberry Milk (S$4.59, RM16), Strawberry Bingsu (S$4.31, RM15), and Strawberry Cream Cake (S$6.60, RM23). 

You can never go wrong with this sweet and tangy combination.

How about taking things up a notch with the Strawberry Matcha Milk (S$5.16, RM18) paired with the Strawberry Matcha Bingsu (S$4.59, RM16) or Matcha Basque (S$7.18, RM25)? 

This matcha set is something to consider for those who don’t have a massive sweet tooth, but still wanna indulge in a sweet treat.

Alternatively, you might want something that is refreshing and not too filling so that you can continue your cafe hopping elsewhere. 

Go for the bingsu in tropical flavours like Yuzu (S$4.30, RM15), Mango (S$4.02, RM14), and Lychee Rose (S$4.30, RM15) — it’s definitely something that you would appreciate in the scorching heat.

If the name sounds familiar to you, you may have visited their booth at ARTBOX 2024 offering a plethora of vintage and disposable cameras alongside film rolls. 

Likewise, their store in Bugis offers a dizzying array of second hand film cameras, disposable cameras, analog rolls and so much more — film lovers, what are you waiting for? 

Be it for travelling, a unique gift or a desire to pick up a new hobby, you can expect to find cameras that are easy to use for beginners. Plus, the staff there are extremely knowledgeable and hands on about film photography so you can always approach them for help.

Besides that, they offer developing services for your film rolls ranging from S$7–S$14 for colour or black and white photos. So if you have any disposable cameras lying around, what better opportunity than to do it here whilst browsing through their shop?

Depending on the mood and vibe that you’re looking for, they have tons of film rolls with different aesthetics to get the most IG-worthy pictures. Think vibrant and colourful Spring, warm and saturated Summer or soft and bokeh effect from Midnight.

For those who already own a camera, there are quirky knick knacks to check out including expired movie films (S$5) and vintage film rolls (S$8) that can be turned into keychains to elevate your bag or outfits.

But, if you’re like me and wanna try something aside from the usual picks, this place is definitely worth checking out. 

Established in 2005, MiX.STORE is a popular flagship outlet from Malaysia carrying over 600 international treats and trendy snacks from all over the world. Think products from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan that you can’t find in typical supermarkets. 

Well, good news because you don’t have to travel all the way to JB just to get your hands on your favourite Asian snack any longer. They have officially made their debut in Singapore in Changi City Point Mall and Sengkang Grand Mall — boy, you easties sure are lucky. 

Prices for snacks start from just S$0.40, which is super affordable considering that these snacks can be hard to find in Singapore. Think Thai snacks, including the likes of Full Fish, V Food’s Biscuit Sticks and Taokaenoi’s Big Sheet Seaweed. Afterwards, quench your thirst with the popular Unif Juice in refreshing flavours like mixed berries and beetroot.

Alternatively, there are classic Korean snacks like Nongshim’s Onion Rings (S$2.50), Honey Butter Chips (S$2.50), and the cult favourite Banana Milk (S$1.40) as well (and cup noodles, of course).

Any fans of Crayon Shin-chan here?

Well, you’re in luck because they have Shin-chan-themed biscuits, snacks, and candies from S$1.50. Not to mention, there are plenty of themed drinks like Pororo, Sailor Moon, Doraemon, and Sanrio to wash it down with.

One of my favourite snacks has to be munching on Lay’s (S$1.80) Chips, anyone else? 

Well, they sell all sorts of interesting flavours that I hardly see in local supermarkets. If you’re someone who prefers rich and intense flavours, go for the Garlic Oyster or Numb and Spicy Hot Pot. 

But, if you prefer something light and still wanna satisfy those chips cravings, Lime and Cucumber sound equally good too.

For those who aren’t huge snackers, worry not. 

There are many drinks to choose from including Nongfu Spring Tea (S$0.60) or Yili Yogurt drink (S$0.40) in sweet and tangy flavours like blueberry, strawberry, and cantaloupe.

With over 10 unique flavours like jujube cranberry, taro rose, and pineapple sesame, Mana Tanghulu has become increasingly popular so I’d highly suggest heading down before it sells out — nothing beats having an icy treat in this blistering heat.

Best yet, they have thoughtfully designed the space with self-checkout kiosks and a fully cashless system which makes paying so seamless and effortless.
